Overview

Job Duties

An Advanced Practice Provider V (APP V) is a direct patient care provider licensed in the State of Florida and/or Georgia and provides medical services to patients as defined by their scope of practice and under the supervision of a physician licensed to practice medicine in the State of Florida/Georgia. Clinical Area - 90% of their time is spent with inpatients, 85% of this time is in the OR.


Responsibilities

Essential Functions

Operating Room

• First assist in a wide variety of open and endovascular vascular surgical procedures

• Assist with patient positioning, surgical exposure, hemostasis, wound closure, and postoperative dressings

• Perform vein harvesting, arterial exposure, vascular anastomotic assistance, and other advanced surgical techniques as appropriate

• Participate in hybrid operating room procedures utilizing fluoroscopy and endovascular technologies

Inpatient Care

• Conduct daily rounds on hospitalized vascular surgery patients

• Evaluate postoperative recovery and formulate treatment plans

• Manage wound care, anticoagulation, pain control, and discharge planning

• Coordinate care with nursing staff, consultants, rehabilitation services, and case management

• Perform bedside procedures including wound debridement, staple and suture removal, dialysis catheter removal, vein injection, and dressing change

Hospital Consult Service

• Evaluate vascular surgery consultations from:

- Emergency Department

- Intensive Care Units

- Medical and surgical inpatient services

• Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations

• Develop diagnostic and treatment plans in collaboration with the attending vascular surgeon

• Coordinate appropriate imaging studies and procedural planning

Outpatient Clinic

• Independently evaluate new and established patients

• Diagnose and manage:

- Peripheral arterial disease

- Carotid artery disease

- Aortic aneurysms

- Chronic venous insufficiency

- Varicose veins

- Dialysis access

- Diabetic foot wounds

- Limb-threatening ischemia

• Interpret noninvasive vascular laboratory studies

• Provide preoperative counseling and postoperative follow-up

• Educate patients regarding disease processes, medications, and lifestyle modifications

• Perform in-office procedures including wound debridement, staple and suture removal, dialysis catheter removal, vein injection, and dressing changes

Qualifications

Experience Requirements

1 - 3 years of surgical or vascular surgery experience     required

Experience first assisting in the operating room              required

Experience managing hospitalized surgical patients       required

Familiarity with electronic medical records                      required

Education Requirements

Masters             Physician Assistant program            required or

Masters             Nursing Practitioner                          required

Certification/Licensure

Physician Assistant (PA) Licensure                                            required at time of hire or

Advanced Practice Registered Nurse(APRN) Licensure        required at time of hire

Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)                                             required at time of hire

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)                                     required at time of hire
