Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Crane Operator role based in Tampa, FL. The Crane Operator will safely operate overhead, mobile and crawler cranes to move materials, parts, and equipment in support of production, maintenance, and project activities. Daily tasks include performing pre-operational checks, monitoring load weight and balance, following lifting plans, and coordinating movements with ground personnel using standard communication signals and radio communication. The role involves inspecting cranes and lifting accessories, reporting defects, and assisting with basic maintenance and housekeeping in work areas. The Crane Operator will adhere to all SMS group USA LLC safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and site-specific guidelines, while collaborating with supervisors, riggers, and other team members to ensure efficient and safe operations.
Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of Lifting Operations, including safe load handling, rigging practices, and use of standard hand and radio signals.
  • Experience operating Heavy Equipment such as overhead cranes, mobile cranes, or similar industrial machinery.
  • Familiarity with Lifting Equipment including slings, hooks, shackles, and spreader bars, and proper selection for different loads.
  • Ability to perform thorough Inspection of cranes, lifting gear, and safety devices, and to document and report findings accurately.
  • Hands-on experience working with Cranes in industrial or manufacturing environments, with a focus on safety and efficiency.
  • Relevant crane operator certification or license as required by local and federal regulations.
  • Understanding of OSHA and workplace safety standards; strong commitment to hazard awareness and risk mitigation.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, lifting plans, and basic technical drawings.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with riggers, supervisors, and other team members.
  • Physical ability to work in an industrial environment, including standing for extended periods and working in varying weather and plant conditions.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; prior experience in metals, manufacturing, or industrial settings is preferred.
