Quality Inspector I

About the role

You’ll ensure aerospace hardware meets drawings, specs, and customer/regulatory requirements. Work spans first piece, in-process, receiving, and final inspection on precision-machined parts, wire/cable harnesses, and electro-mechanical assemblies. Training and mentorship provided for early-career quality talent with strong metrology aptitude.

Note: Due to contractual requirements, U.S. citizenship is required for this position.

What you’ll do
  • Execute inspections: Perform first piece, in-process, receiving, and final inspections against engineering drawings, models, and work instructions.

  • First Article (FAI): Prepare/verify AS9102 Forms 1–3, balloon drawings, collect objective evidence (certs/results), and submit complete packages.

  • Metrology & equipment:

    • Operate CMM (run existing programs, set up parts/fixtures, verify alignments, interpret reports).

    • Operate VMM/vision systems and optical comparator for non-contact measurements.

    • Use hand tools: micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, height gauges, pin/thread gauges, torque tools, surface plates, indicators.

  • Wire harness & assembly checks: Inspect crimps/terminations, continuity/hi-pot where applicable, routing/strain relief, labeling, and workmanship to spec.

  • Documentation & traceability: Record results in QMS/ERP, attach certs (material, special processes, test), maintain lot/serial traceability.

  • Nonconformance & corrective action: Create NCRs, segregate/tag suspect material, participate in CAR/8D investigations, verify effectiveness.

  • Supplier/product support: Review incoming certs (heat treat, plating, NDT), sample to AQL/ANSI plans, provide clear feedback to internal teams/suppliers.

  • Housekeeping & safety: Maintain 5S, follow ESD/FOD controls, and adhere to all safety/quality policies.

Minimum qualifications
  • U.S. citizen (required due to contractual requirements).

  • High school diploma or equivalent (AA/technical certificate a plus).

  • Drawing & GD&T: Read complex aerospace drawings; working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 (position, profile, runout, etc.).

  • Metrology: Proficient with micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, pins/thread gauges; able to set up on a surface plate.

  • CMM/VMM: Able to operate a CMM (e.g., PC-DMIS, Calypso) and a VMM/vision system (e.g., OGP, Keyence): run programs, confirm setups, interpret reports.

  • Basic computer skills for data entry/reporting (Excel/Sheets, QMS/ERP).

  • Strong attention to detail, documentation discipline, and communication skills.

  • Able to stand, reach, and occasionally lift up to ~35 lbs; fine motor skills for precision measurement.

Preferred/“nice to have”
  • AS9102 FAI experience; exposure to AS9100 quality systems.

  • Familiarity with IPC/WHMA-A-620 (cable & harness workmanship) and basic electrical test (continuity/hi-pot).

  • Experience with SPC, capability checks, and gage R&R/MSA concepts.

  • Exposure to special processes/NDT review (heat treat, chem film, anodize, plating, penetrant).

  • Ability to make minor edits to CMM/VMM programs under supervision.

  • Prior work in precision machining or aerospace assembly environments.

Success metrics
  • On-time FAI closure; first-pass yield on first-piece checks.

  • Defects per lot and escape rate; audit findings and NCR/CAR cycle time.

  • Accuracy/completeness of records and traceability.

Schedule & pay (customize)
  • Full-time, day shift (overtime as needed). 7am - 3:30pm

  • Pay: DOE + benefits (401(k), PTO).
