Pediatric Cardiologist, Advanced Cardiac Imaging Driscoll Childrens Hospital

The Heart Center at Driscoll Childrens Hospital is recruiting a pediatric cardiologist with advanced training in cardiac imaging to join our expanding pediatric and congenital heart program. This position is ideal for an early-career physician who thrives in a high-acuity environment and wants to help shape a rapidly growing service alongside a collaborative, multidisciplinary team committed to excellence in pediatric cardiovascular care.

About the Program

  • The Driscoll Heart Center delivers comprehensive care for infants, children, adolescents, and adults with congenital heart disease across seven practice sites in Texas, with recent imaging service expansion to our Rio Grande Valley Hospital.
  • Facilities include 35 dedicated CICU beds, 2 cardiovascular ORs, and 2 state-of-the-art catheterization labs, including a hybrid suite.
  • 2025 clinical activity included 500+ CICU cardiac admissions, 241 index cardiac surgeries, and 300+ catheterization and hybrid procedures, with a hospital-approved strategic plan to double overall volume within five years.
  • Advanced imaging capacity includes 600700 cardiac CT and MRI studies annually, with access to cutting-edge imaging platforms and post-processing tools.
  • Our team delivers robust interventional and surgical volume and participates in national quality collaboratives and registries such as STS, PC4, and C3PO.
  • Strong culture of multidisciplinary collaboration with cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, cardiac anesthesia, critical care, genetics, fetal care, and maternalfetal medicine.

Position Highlights

  • High clinical volume with diverse congenital pathology and complex postoperative care exposure.
  • Significant advanced imaging practice across TTE, TEE, fetal echocardiography, cardiac CT, and cardiac MRI, with opportunities to refine subspecialty niches (e.g., fetal imaging, 3D/4D echo, CT/MRI sedation optimization).
  • Support for quality improvement, education, and scholarly work, with mentorship for academic development and support for conference presentations and publications.
  • Leadership growth opportunities in imaging, fetal cardiology, quality/safety, and program development as volumes expand.
  • Equitable call schedule shared across the team, with strong CICU and hospitalist support.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and interpret advanced pediatric cardiac imaging, including TTE, TEE, fetal echocardiograms, cardiac CT, and cardiac MRI.
  • Lead and contribute to multidisciplinary imaging case conferences, surgical planning meetings, and catheterization/EP conferences.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives, outcomes benchmarking, and clinical research; contribute to registry submissions and data-driven practice refinement.
  • Teach and mentor sonographers, residents, and medical students; assist with imaging protocols and lab accreditation standards.
  • Participate in equitable call coverage and provide consultative support across inpatient and outpatient settings, including satellite sites via tele-imaging/teleconsult platforms where applicable.

Qualifications

  • MD/DO (or equivalent) with board certification in Pediatrics and certification/eligibility in Pediatric Cardiology.
  • Formal fellowship training in Advanced Pediatric Cardiac Imaging.
  • 35 years of post-fellowship experience preferred; early-career candidates with strong imaging portfolios are encouraged to apply.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in TEE and fetal echocardiography preferred.
  • Eligibility for Texas medical licensure; commitment to team-based, family-centered care.
