Job description

Brewer Science, Inc. is a major innovator of high-technology solutions for the semiconductor / microelectronics markets. We are currently seeking a purpose-driven candidate with an ownership mentality to fill an open position as a Principal Applications Engineer (level I, II, or III). This position will be located in Rolla, MO.

 Summary:

Principal Engineers are responsible for evaluating, selecting, developing, and executing programs related to product and process characterization, continuous improvement, equipment design, specifications, and quality system implementation. They may oversee the planning and execution of capital projects, such as building new production facilities or upgrading existing ones. Principal engineers work closely with interdisciplinary teams of engineers, technicians, and other professionals to ensure that processes are safe, efficient, and cost-effective. Their expertise lies in applying engineering principles, such as mechanical, electrical, chemical, or process engineering, to design and improve systems. Principal Engineers are also tasked with executing management initiatives to meet Business Unit and pipeline objectives and ensuring the quality, safety, and sustainability of the organization.
Responsibilities:

Principal Applications Engineer I:

  • Lead cross-functional teams to plan, execute, and deliver complex engineering projects on time and within budget.
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise to resolve challenging engineering problems and ensure the quality and reliability of products and innovative solutions.
  • Mentor and coach lower-level engineers, helping them develop skills and grow in their roles.
  • Evaluate project risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure project success.
  • Collaborate with other departments to align engineering efforts with overall business objectives.
  • Ensure all engineering activities adhere to industry regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct detailed process simulations and analyses to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Take ownership of assigned projects, ensuring timely and successful delivery.
  • Implement process control strategies to enhance efficiency and reduce variability.
  • Conduct safety assessments and ensure adherence to environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Create presentations and present to customers and at industry forums.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of safety protocols and procedures.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize processes.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of design, optimization, and project activities.
  • Collaborate with regulatory affairs teams to address compliance requirements.
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.

Principal Applications Engineer II:

  • Same duties as Principal Applications Engineer I. 

  • Additional duties as Principal Applications Engineer II: 

    • Collaborate with leadership to develop, align, execute technical and engineering initiatives with long-term strategy with the company’s business objectives.
    • Manage a portfolio of engineering projects, balancing priorities, resource allocation, and project dependencies.
    • Drive innovation by identifying opportunities for new technologies, materials, and processes that enhance quality and cost-effectiveness.
    • Lead and oversee major engineering projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
    • Evaluate emerging technologies and provide recommendations for strategic implementation.
    • Drive initiatives to optimize and scale processes for enhanced efficiency.
    • Implement advanced process control strategies and automation solutions.

Principal Applications Engineer III:

  • Same duties as Principal Applications Engineer II. 

  • Additional duties as Principal Applications Engineer III: 

    • Define, along with leadership, the company’s engineering vision and drive alignment with the organization’s overall strategic goals.
    • Implement and provide expertise on a technology roadmap that guides the development of advanced engineering capabilities and sets the direction for future products.
    • Represent the company as an industry thought leader by participating in conferences, speaking engagements, and publications.
    • Lead innovation initiatives, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and exploration of cutting-edge technologies.
    • Anticipate and mitigate engineering-related risks.
    • Forge strategic partnerships with research institutions, suppliers, and customers to access advanced technologies and stay at the forefront of industry developments.
    • Align technical initiatives with overall business objectives, collaborating closely with leadership.
    • Lead large-scale engineering projects from conception to successful implementation.
    • Maintain detailed records of strategic initiatives, process optimizations, and engineering activities.

Education amp; Credentials:

  • Principal Applications Engineer I:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field and 10+ years of relevant experience or
    • Master's Degree in Engineering or related field and 8+ years of relevant experience or
    • PhD and 6+ years of relevant experience or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Experience with Photo Lithography or in Advance Semiconductor Packaging, preferred.
  • Principal Applications Engineer II:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field and 12+ years of relevant experience or
    • Master's Degree in Engineering or related field and 10+ years of relevant experience or
    • PhD in Engineering or related field and 8+ years of relevant experience or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Experience with Photo Lithography or in Advance Semiconductor Packaging, preferred.
  • Principal Application Engineer III:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field and 14+ years of relevant experience or
    • Master's Degree in Engineering or related field and 12+ years of relevant experience or
    • PhD in Engineering or related field and 10+ years of relevant experience or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Experience with Photo Lithography or in Advance Semiconductor, packaging Preferred.
