Detailed Description:

This recruitment is open to current University of San Diego employees only. Only current USD employees are eligible to apply and be considered for this position.

The Intramural Supervisor plays a key role in creating a diverse, inclusive, and engaging recreational environment for the University of San Diego community. This position is primarily responsible for the oversight and operations of the Intramural Sports program, as well as shared responsibility for Campus Recreation facility operations and student employee development.

Working closely with the Sports Club Supervisor and the Assistant Director of Recreation Programs /Recreational Wellness this position oversees Intramural programming, staffing, and facility operations at the Sports Center, Manchester Field, and Valley Fields during Intramural activities and assigned recreation special events. In partnership with professional staff, the position supports student development initiatives and may contribute to broader division or campus projects as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Programming

• Design, implement, and supervise the annual Intramural Sports program.
• Plan and facilitate Intramural staff meetings aligned with departmental student development outcomes.
• Enforce policies and address conduct issues using a restorative justice framework.
• Support summer adult and youth recreation programming in collaboration with the Sports Club Supervisor.
• Integrate principles of accessibility, equity, inclusion, and diversity into Intramural programming and operations.
• Design, implement, and supervise, in partnership with the Sports Club Supervisor summer youth programs.

Operations 

• Provide full leadership for approximately 1,500 participants. Leadership and oversight over area-related compliance, budgeting, organization and risk Management.
• Oversee and ensure collection, maintenance, and compliance of liability waivers for approximately 1,500 Intramural participants.
• Train team captains and student employees on program expectations, risk management, and sport-specific guidelines.
• Evaluate learning outcomes for both the Intramural program and the Intramural Officials staff development program.
• Manage the Intramural program calendar, registration system, and informational websites. 
• Oversee Sports Center facility operations when serving as lead Campus Recreation staff member (shared rotational responsibility), including:
  • Student employee supervision
  • Special event operations
  • Scheduling and staffing
  • Risk management and liability
  • Facility operations and maintenance
• Assist with Intramural and summer program marketing and promotional efforts.
• Manage payroll for all Intramural student staff in partnership with Business Services Manager 
• In collaboration with the Sports Club Supervisor, manage the adult and youth summer programming including program development, execution and all associated revenue.

Staff Supervision & Development 

• Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate undergraduate and graduate Intramural student staff.
• Support recruitment, retention, and professional development of student employees.
• In collaboration with the Sports Club Supervisor, supervise seasonal summer adult and/or youth camp staff. 
• Provide leadership development and professional growth opportunities for student staff and volunteer Intramural team captains.

Additional Responsibilities

• Attend meetings and serve on committees as assigned.
• Contribute to or lead special projects at the division or campus level in support of student success and organizational goals.
• Perform additional seasonal, ad hoc, or ongoing duties as needed.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

• CPR/AED and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain). Must be certified within six weeks of employment start date.
• Valid California Driver's License with a clear driving record.

Special Conditions of Employment:

• Must be able and willing to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Typical Intramural schedule includes Monday-Thursday evenings (4:00-11:15 p.m.) and one 8-hour weekend shift between 9:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m., dependent on the academic calendar.

Degree Verification Requirement: Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes. 

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Recreation Administration or a related field.
• Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in recreation, intramural sports, or a related area. Substitution: A Master's degree may substitute for up to one year of required experience, at the rate of two years of education is equivalent to one year of work experience. 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree or equivalent professional experience (one year of relevant experience may substitute for two years of higher education).
• Experience in staff supervision, leadership and/or employee training strongly preferred. 
• Experience working with youth sport and/or camp programs.
• Experience applying student development theory within a higher education setting.

Posting Salary:

$6083-$6112.50 per month; Excellent Benefits

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position.  Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
