Successful ABE instructors are flexible, patient, and proactive in adapting their teaching methods to help every learner succeed.

What are Adult Basic Education instructors?

Adult Basic Education (ABE) instructors are educators who help adults improve foundational skills such as reading, writing, math, and sometimes English language proficiency. Their students often include individuals who did not complete high school or need to strengthen basic academic skills for employment or further education. ABE instructors develop lesson plans tailored to adult learners and may also assist with test preparation, such as for the GED. Their goal is to help adults become more self-sufficient, advance their careers, and participate more fully in society.
