Job description

Position:                             Tribal Education Administrator

Supervisor:                        Tribal Administrator

Responsibilities:

Performs a wide variety of responsible, complex and confidential administrative and managerial duties in support of the Tribes Educational Program and Tribal Administrator; performs duties that require considerable confidentiality, initiative, tact, mature and independent judgment; strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Under the supervision of the Tribal Administrator this person is responsible for initiating and coordinating the goals and objectives of each department under his/her supervision. These functions required effective implementation of administrative policies. The Tribal Education Administrator will report directly to the Traditional Council when the Tribal Administrator is not present.

Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following:

The Education Administrator is responsible for carrying out all policies established by the office of KTTT educational administration. This position is responsible for providing professional leadership for the comprehensive KTTT educational program of the schools, and for the development of a system of regularly reporting regarding all aspects to the KTTT Tribal Administrator or designee* and Council all of the educational program.

 

Exercise direct supervision of all Tribal Program directors/managers in accordance with the Tribe’s organizational chart.

Manage the overall operation of the departments under his/her responsibility.

Direct the delivery of comprehensive social services to the Tribal Members and administrative services to Administration staff.

Direct the development of all grants and contract applications under his/her supervision for submission on behalf of the KTTT.

The Educational Administrator shall staff and lead the school system in areas of; 

Site Plan Development

Align and Develop a school campus site that is aligned to student learning needs, curriculum, and best practices for acceleration, advancement and 

Comprehensive School Program Direction:

 

a. Provide leadership and direction for the District;

b. Organize for comprehensive educational instruction in the District;

c. Provide for performance evaluation strategies for all personnel;

d. To be responsible for a system of supervision and evaluation for all staff designed to meet the goals of the school system 

e. Provide for effective recruitment, selection, and assignment of personnel; 

f. Promote and encourage staff development;  

District Operations/ Strategic Planning:

 

g. Communicate standards of expected performance to employees; 

h. Provide for effective day to day operation of the district;

 i. Promote and maintain a positive school climate;

j. Develop and administer the district budget using sound fiscal practices;

k. Ensure compliance with statutes, rules and regulations;

l. Develop and recommend District policies and procedures; 

m. Work cooperatively with legislators and other organizations in the passage of statutes and rules that will improve education within tribal community; and

n. Provides leadership in areas of facility maintenance, construction, renovation and replacement.

o. Provide for the preparation and maintenance of job descriptions for all administrative personnel. 

Professional Responsibilities

 

a. Sets and works towards annual goals; 

b. Participates in professional growth activities; 

c. Serves as local spokesperson for public education; and

d. Prepares annual report to patrons.

Meet regularly with other Administrators to effectively provide management solutions for all aspects of Tribal Administration.

Perform such other tasks as may be assigned from time to time by Tribal Administrator.

Knowledge, skills and abilities for the position:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet software and Microsoft word, Word Processing software.

Mathematical Skills - Ability to add, subtracts, multiply and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fraction and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Language Skills - Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence; ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form; ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Must speak, write and read English fluently, knowledge of the Kickapoo Language and Spanish is a plus but not required.

Cultural awareness of and sensitivity to Kickapoo traditions, religious beliefs and way of life.

Must be able to work under extended periods of severe stress.

Supervision exercised:

This position does carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

Education/experience requirements:

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s Degree and two- three years of experience in district level administration.

Preferred Qualifications: National and State Educational Legislation, Experience developing comprehensive curriculum, and understanding of cultural/language immersion best practice. Experience in Human Rights, Social Justice, Native American History/Ethnic Studies. Should have experience working with Native American and/or other minority populations.
