Job description
The Department seeks candidates whose professional interests reflect a commitment to excellence in teaching, the development and maintenance of an active undergraduate research program, participation in service activities, and the continued growth of the department. Teaching responsibilities will primarily include the biochemistry sequence, along with general chemistry and other instructional assignments as needed based on the departmental needs and the candidate's qualifications. The ideal candidate will contribute research expertise that complements the department's existing faculty strengths and research infrastructure. Preference will be given to candidates with a collaborative approach to research and interests that support continued expansion of the department's analytical core, the Analytical Science for Environmental Toxicology (ASET) Lab. The department values faculty who will contribute not only to disciplinary excellence, but also to the inclusive and community-engaged mission of the College of Arts and Sciences.

To thrive in this role, the candidate should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to teach core and specialized courses in the department's curriculum, demonstrated potential to support and mentor students, demonstrated commitment to student success, knowledge of innovative teaching practice, Knowledge of biochemical applications including but not limited to: biomedicine, bioanalytical sciences, and toxicology, as well as a demonstrated committment to collaborative work and interdisciplinary engagement. Leadership qualities (appropriate to stage of career) are highly valued.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D in Biochemistry or closely related field by the time of appointment.
Disciplinary expertise in biochemistry is required. Desired areas of expertise may include, but are not limited to, metabolic biochemisty, metabolomics, multi-omics technologies, toxicology, systems biochemistry, biomedicine, and bioanalytical methods and applications.
Demonstrated capacity for scholarly or creative activity, including publications, presentations, or a defined research agenda.
Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching at the college/university level.
Preferred Experience:
Postdoctoral experience. Evidence of effective teaching across modalities, including online or hybrid formats, experience with curriculum development, program assessment, or course design, familiarity with or experience in grant writing and project management, experience teaching or working in an open-access, public university, evidence of interdisciplinary collaboration or applied/community-engaged scholarship, experience or demonstrated potential in contributing to interdisciplinary programs, and knowledge of regional issues or communities relevant to the institution's mission (e.g., Circumpolar North, Alaska Native communities, rural engagement).
Position Details:
This position is located on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus in Anchorage, Alaska. This is a full-time, 9 month base, tenure track faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package . UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, faculty time off, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. Faculty salaries are based on a variety of factors, including education and experience.
