At CHC Addiction Services, we believe the best way to learn is by doing. That's why our internship program provides meaningful, hands-on experience alongside experienced professionals who are passionate about helping the next generation of behavioral health leaders succeed.

For more than 50 years, CHC has been serving the Akron community by providing compassionate, evidence-based treatment and recovery services for individuals and families impacted by substance use disorders. As an intern, you'll become part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to changing lives through hope, healing, and recovery.

Whether you're completing your first practicum or preparing for graduation, CHC offers an internship experience that combines real-world learning, professional mentorship, and meaningful client interaction.

We offer paid and unpaid internship opportunities throughout the year, with placements available primarily within our Counseling Department for Bachelor's and Master's level students.

Depending on your educational program and placement, interns may gain experience in:

• Individual and group counseling
• Client assessments and treatment planning
• Case management and care coordination
• Recovery-oriented care and support services
• Clinical documentation and electronic health records
• Professional ethics, confidentiality, and compliance
• Collaboration within a multidisciplinary treatment team
• Community resources and referral services

Every internship is designed to provide practical experience while helping students develop confidence, professionalism, and clinical skills.

At CHC, interns don't spend their days observing from the sidelines.

You'll receive guidance and mentorship from experienced counselors, social workers, peer supporters, nurses, case managers, and clinical leaders who are invested in your success. Our goal is to provide an engaging learning environment where questions are encouraged, professional growth is supported, and every experience helps prepare you for your future career.

One of the unique advantages of interning at CHC is the opportunity to learn about the many services we provide throughout our organization.

Depending on your placement, you may gain exposure to programs such as:

• Outpatient counseling services
• Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)
• Residential treatment programs
• Recovery housing
• Peer recovery support services
• Case management and community-based services
• Prevention and recovery support programming

This broad exposure helps interns better understand the continuum of addiction treatment and recovery while working alongside professionals from a variety of disciplines.

While most internship opportunities are available within our Counseling Department, we're always open to exploring placements in other areas of the organization.
