What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an addiction case manager?

To thrive as an Addiction Case Manager, you need a background in social work, counseling, or psychology, often supported by a relevant degree and, in some cases, certification such as CADC or LADC. Familiarity with electronic case management systems, assessment tools, and treatment planning software is typically required. Addiction Case Managers often encounter challenges such as navigating limited community resources, addressing co-occurring mental health issues, and managing clients’ fluctuating motivation for recovery. Building trust with clients and collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams—including counselors, healthcare providers, and social workers—are essential skills for overcoming these obstacles and ensuring clients receive comprehensive, continuous support.
