Position Title: Maintenance Director
Reports To: Plant Manager
Department: Maintenance
Hours per shift: Day shift Monday-Friday, and must be available if needed on all shifts and all days including holidays
Wage: Salaried
Position Purpose: The maintenance director is responsible for supporting the plant manager in providing leadership and direction to lead millwright, lead electrician and all maintenance personnel in their daily job routines in a way that maximizes production, minimizes downtime, and reduces costs. The maintenance director keeps the plant manager and plant superintendents informed of all problems and progress. The maintenance director is responsible for supporting and promoting company policies and procedures while encouraging the same positive behavior in each member of the maintenance team.
Position Functions:
Essential Functions*
These duties are designated as ADA Essential Functions and must be performed in this job.
Define, develop, and oversee a program to organize the maintenance team's resources and efforts.
Support and participate in all company safety efforts.
Act as coach and mentor for all positions supervised.
Set goals for the maintenance team with the input from plant manager.
Work with plant superintendents to limit downtime and to improve maintenance's overall performance.
Facilitate maintenance activities in the plant utilizing preventative and predictive maintenance techniques.
Ensure plant machinery is in a condition to attain 100% run time.
Oversee installation, maintenance and fabrication of equipment and machinery according to layout plans, using hand and power tools.
Support and promote all company safety policies for lockout/tagout, personal protective equipment, hazardous materials handling, and SHARP compliance.
Work directly with plant manager, project managers, and outside vendors to provide seamless transition from project status to operating status of projects as assigned.
Oversee execution of action plans for maintenance and production to reach plant goals for production and recovery.
Monitor and report maintenance performance to plant manager.
Assist in coordination with production and quality functions.
Oversee the design, implementation, and constant improvement of company's preventive
maintenance programs.
Assist workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment.
Ensure appropriate preventive maintenance programs are in place.
Requisition tools, equipment, and supplies required for operations.
Provide honest and timely feedback to maintenance personnel through informal daily
communications and annual evaluations.
Troubleshoot and problem solve to reduce downtime.

Non-Essential Functions
These duties are secondary in nature and are not classified as ADA essential.
Additional duties as assigned by plant manager for facilitation of production.
Working Environment: (1) Entering enclosed areas, noisy environment and dusty environment. Inside 90%, average temperature 70 degrees F (2) Outside 10%; extreme low temperature 10 degrees F, extreme high temperature 105 degrees F. Physical Demands: See the attached Job/Task Evaluation and Physical Capabilities portion; this position requires constant use of hearing and vision, frequent bending, twisting, pushing/pulling and reaching, and occasional lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling more than 50 lbs. Climb ladders, standing for long periods of time.
Mental Demands: Organizing and coordinating schedules; analyzing and interpreting data; problem solving, completing written work orders. Must be able to concentrate in a noisy environment, deal with frequent interruptions, juggle multiple projects, meet deadlines, exercise independent judgment or perform other mental tasks.
Skills: Journeyman level millwright or electrician. Must possess leadership skills and be experienced in hydraulics, pneumatics, fabrication, electricity, and understand fire suppression system. Must possess practical problem-solving skills. Must be able to lockout machinery by following machine specific lockout procedures and provide effective training on lockout. Trained in confined space entry, fall protection, crane, forklift, and aerial lift operation.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Must be able to communicate with co-workers face to face, via radio, email, and telephone. Basic computer skills and understanding, with a focus on the Computerized Maintenance Management System and Dynastar.
Work and Education requirements: High School diploma or GED and two years of experience
Communication Skills: Interacts effectively with others to convey thoughts, ideas, and information; utilizes the power of positive persuasion to gain the support of others. Use vision/hearing continuously, reading and speech required to communicate comprehension of Job Hazard Analysis, Machine Specific Lockout Procedures, monthly safety training topics, and Job Certification if applicable. Worker generally works alone, with little supervision. Must be self-directed in identifying and efficiently completing each next task.

Safety: (1) Do only maintenance you are trained to do and keep all body parts out of machinery. (2) Always use our 14-step lockout/tagout procedure before doing any maintenance, clearing jams, or getting into machinery for any reason; be aware of stored energy. (3) Always use proper body mechanics (ex: don't overreach, get help as needed to push loads out). (4) Use proper PPE (gloves, eye protection, hearing protection). (5) Be aware of and always communicate with your co-worker (ex: forklift driver). (6) Will be required to read and write during safety training.
