Job description

Software Engineer โ€“ Navy Shipboard Communications

COLSA is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to support the Integrated Voice Communications System (IVCS) contract in San Diego, CA. This position supports U.S. Navy shipboard telecommunications systems and associated equipment, including MarCom (AN/STC-2(V)1), SHINCOM (AN/STC-3(V)), IVN, Avaya, DRS, and related technologies.

In this role, you will develop, maintain, integrate, test, troubleshoot, and debug software within established and legacy environments. You will also modify and maintain ship configuration databases and work with U.S. Navy personnel, contractors, and engineering teams to evaluate technical issues and provide solutions.

This position requires some work aboard U.S. Navy vessels.

  • Develop, modify, test, troubleshoot, and maintain software supporting U.S. Navy shipboard telecommunications systems.
  • Modify and maintain ship configuration databases associated with these systems.
  • Perform software configuration and lifecycle maintenance activities.
  • Support software design, integration, testing, and debugging.
  • Analyze software and system issues and develop technical solutions.
  • Support software within UNIX and Windows operating system environments.
  • Support integration and testing of software with associated shipboard communications systems and equipment.
  • Collaborate with U.S. Navy personnel, contractors, hardware engineers, software engineers, and systems engineers to evaluate and resolve technical issues.
  • Perform software and system support aboard U.S. Navy vessels as required.

Required Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with SQL and relational database systems, including Ingres, Microsoft Access, or similar technologies.
  • Minimum of 5 years of software development experience in UNIX and Windows operating system environments, including experience with Windows XP/7 environments.
  • U.S. Citizenship required; m ust possess or be able to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • Experience modifying and maintaining ship configuration databases associated with U.S. Navy shipboard telecommunications systems.
  • Experience with software configuration, lifecycle maintenance, design, integration, testing, troubleshooting, and debugging.
  • Familiarity with computer systems administration processes.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience designing, developing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining programs using C/C++.
  • Experience designing and developing software using Ada.
  • Experience with U.S. Navy shipboard telecommunications systems and associated equipment, including MarCom (AN/STC-2(V)1), SHINCOM (AN/STC-3(V)), IVN, Avaya, DRS, or related technologies.
