Job Summary:
Advises, evaluates and packages applicants for student financial aid program assistance. Collaborates with Northeastern Illinois University International Programs and Veteran Services Offices on award priorities and any necessary Cost of Attendance adjustments. Participates in conferences and webinars as they relate to Federal Title IV funding, Minimum Standards of Academic Progress, studying abroad and Veteran based scholarship assistance (including Veteran's Grant, National Guard, ROTC, Montgomery GI Bill and MIA/POW).
Job Description:
Assists with the following essential financial aid functions:
  • Advising students/parents on financial aid programs and the documents necessary to complete financial aid package.
  • Processing and packaging of student financial aid files.
  • Reviewing appeal petitions for students not meeting satisfactory academic progress standards.
  • Assisting with the certification of student loan eligibility.
  • Conducting workshops on financial aid programs/processes.
  • Conduct workshops for study abroad and veteran students.
  • Determines eligibility for students receiving State of Illinois benefits such as the Illinois Veteran Grant and the Illinois National Guard.
  • This includes:
    • Reviewing of eligibility rosters;
    • Communication with external agencies and other NEIU departments such as Student Payment Services and the Veteran Services Office.
  • Reviews and processes study abroad budgets sent through the approving department.
  • This includes:
    • Advising abroad students of financing options;
    • Communication with the Office of International Programs and making budget and packaging adjustments where necessary.
  • Assists in the institutional effort to comply with federal, state and institutional regulations/guidelines.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimal Qualifications:
1. Any one or combination totaling three (3) years (36 months) from the categories below:
A. College coursework in any discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
  • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
  • Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
  • 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
  • Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)

B. Work experience coordinating office, business, or customer service/relations activities.
2. One (1) year (12 months) of higher education, student services, or closely related experience.
Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. (Hours vary based on departmental needs).
Location: NEIU Main Campus (5500 N. St Louis Ave, Chicago, IL 60625)
Setting: In-office, not eligible for remote work
This position requires a background check.
