Join Us as an Active Older Adult Coordinator - Empowering Older Adults to Live Strong, Stay Active, and Thrive!
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The coordinator is responsible for but not limited to: assisting in program operation, program development and growth, participant satisfaction, member and staff retention and safety, staff supervision, onboarding, training, and coaching. As a Coordinator at the Y, you lead an environment that is inviting and serves all.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Supports department to establish new program activities and expansion within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  2. Adheres to the organizations policies and procedures.
  3. Provides shift supervision while working 80% of time as direct service.
  4. Assists in recruiting, hiring, training, development of team members.
  5. Conducts team member feedback, corrective actions, and evaluations.
  6. Schedules and processes payroll functions.
  7. Provide fitness and equipment demonstrations and explanations for members and guests.
  8. Supports campaign efforts and donor engagement in the community and team members.
  9. Models relationship building in all interactions through Listen First.
  10. Responds to all member and community inquires and/or complaints in a timely manner.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

TECHNICAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Maintain CPR/First Aid certification
  2. Responsible for following basic principles of exercise science, consistently complying with guidelines set by the YMCA and other nationally recognized fitness organizations.
  3. Respond to members to support wellness goals related to healthy living.
  4. Refrain from writing diets prescribing supplements or diagnosing/curing any type of injury or illness. Always referring members to a doctor when needed if health or well-being is questioned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively.
  • Must have high level of alertness, concentration, and initiative.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time; occasionally stoop/bend.
  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.
  • Potential extreme heat during peak summer months.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Minimum 1-2 years related experience preferred.
  2. Maintain current nationally recognized and YMCA approved personal training and/or group exercise instructor certification(s).
  3. Acquire equivalent Y-USA Strength and Conditioning and/or Y-USA Foundations of Group Exercise certifications within 30 days.
  4. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  5. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  6. Able to work independently and with minimal supervision. Organized and detail oriented.
  7. Adept computer skills in Office 365.
  8. Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekend, and holidays. Required to be On-Call with predetermined schedule.
  9. Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
