Job description

Position: Health Services Manager

Division: Gary Health Department

NATURE OF WORK:

Under the direction of the Health Commissioner and Executive Director, works in the area of public health and immunization delivery/outreach. Supervises staff utilizing Childrenโ€™s Health Immunization Registry Program (CHIRP) for immunization records, schedules, and input of all vaccinations given or received. Oversees Food Handlerโ€™s Cards and TB testing. Supervises health fairs and outreach activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assures assigned staff maintains immunization updates
  • Delegation of Task Force Coordination
  • Educates school nurses and physicians on immunization updates
  • Coordinates school, organized daycares, and other vaccination clinics in the community
  • Secures publicly-funded vaccine stock/inventory
  • Oversees the delivery of vaccinations by designated personnel
  • Oversees data entry of CHIRP, possible delinquencies, and reminder calls
  • Supervises staff coordinating assistance with school nurses
  • Administers first aid and provides basic medical care to visitors and staff in accordance with the City of Gary regulations
  • Coordinates in-service programs for staff, students, school nurses, providers, and parents
  • Participates in staff meetings, trainings, and workshops as assigned and/or called by the Executive Director of the Health Department
  • Perform venipunctures and finger sticks
  • Administer immunizations
  • Perform intake procedures
  • Implement the City of Gary, State of Indiana, and Federal Laws, bylaws, ordinances, and statutes while representing the City of Gary Health Department
  • Supervision of assigned staff including Outreach Nurses and Medical Assistants to ensure successful Indiana Immunization Action Network program implementation
  • Works with staff by utilizing aa team approach in addressing program and patrons needs
  • Supervise Lead Testing program
  • Compile monthly State and City reports
  • Prepare required contagious disease reports
  • Perform lead testing and follow-up with home visits according to policy
  • Oversee immunization billing policy and procedures
  • Monitor inventory, order supplies for daily use
  • Develop policies and procedures as needed
  • Administer TB tests and issue Food Handlerโ€™s Cards according to established policies and procedures of the Gary Health Department
  • Oversee all requirements of the immunization program
  • Work as part of the Gary Health Department management team

OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under the supervision of the Health Commissioner and Executive Director

SUPERVISION GIVEN:

Supervisor for the staff of the Nursing Division of the Gary Health Department

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Nursing Degree from an accredited College or University. Current CPR card from the American Heart Association or Red Cross, two years of experience in Public Health Care.

DESIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Working knowledge of current immunization schedules

Experience in delivering pediatric immunizations
