About ArtCenter
Foundedin 1930 and located in Pasadena, California, ArtCenter College of Design is a globalleader in art and design education and has had an international reputation forits rigorous, transdisciplinary curriculum, faculty of professionals, strongties to industry, and commitment to socially responsible design. ArtCenter is aprivate nonprofit fully accredited by the WASC Senior College and UniversityCommission (WSCUC).

Every position atArtCenter plays an important part in carrying out the cultural values, goals,strategic vision, and mission of the College. This includes upholding andcultivating an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming environment where everyonefeels a sense of belonging.

Reporting to the director, Accounting, the senior accountant is responsible for the College's financial records including general ledger account reconciliations, fixed asset and investment schedules, monitoring general ledger accounts, and posting general journal entries. This position will also ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and reporting requirements while working closely with internal departments, external auditors, financial institutions, and third-party service providers.

This is a full-time, on-site position. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or as defined by the department. Limited remote work may be permitted as part of an approved hybrid schedule, subject to supervisor approval and departmental needs. The College reserves the right to modify work schedules and onsite requirements as needed to meet business needs, with appropriate notice.

Essential Functions

Accounting - 75%

  • Maintain accurate reconciled general ledger with supporting schedules, including fixed assets, and calculation of depreciation expenses
  • Manage all cash related activity, including the reconciliation of bank statements to the general ledger, monitoring cash receipts from the accountant and researching any unreconciled cash transactions on an accurate and timely basis
  • Reconcile, maintain and report on the College's investment accounts, working directly with outside investment consultants and bankers to ensure that investments are properly valued per FASB Accounting Standard Codification 820
  • Prepare journal entries, month-end recurring journal entries and annual audit schedules.
  • Prepare quarterly sales tax schedules and reports
  • Run daily updates to the G/L for Financial Aid and Accounts Receivable
  • Assist in the external year-end audit process
  • Set up departments with an online payment gateway provider and serve as a liaison to resolve chargeback issues between the cardholder and the bank

IRS/Reporting - 15%

  • Prepare annual 1042-S and submit 1042 return to the IRS
  • Coordinate with 3rd party to prepare and submit Grants & Annual Statement to CA Department of Insurance
  • File state reports and remit Unclaimed Propertyin accordance with state rules, guidelines and best practices

Non-Essential - 10%

  • Follow ArtCenter policies, including safety protocols
  • Participate in college committees, work groups, or task forces as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned
