University Financial Services (UFS), also known as the Controller Department, supports the university's mission of instruction and support by providing efficient and effective accounting and finance services and support for PSU faculty, staff, and students. These services are provided by three departments comprising Financial Reporting, Campus Accounting Services, and Project Accounting. The Controller's office also provides technical support in Banner Finance and training. The UFS team is dedicated to providing exemplary service to the campus through collaboration, partnership and teamwork.
Position Summary
The purpose of the Accounting Technician position is to provide crucial accounting and administrative support to PSU departments. This role is a central point of contact for financial transactions, ensuring accuracy and efficiency across multiple systems. The Accounting Technician is responsible for creating, reviewing, and verifying transactions related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, and purchasing. This involves meticulous data entry and verification in various accounting and database systems to ensure accuracy.
On a daily basis, the Accounting Technician resolves billing and payment issues. This includes addressing discrepancies on invoices and statements by interacting with a variety of stakeholders, including vendors, customers, and university staff. A significant part of the job is providing administrative support to the University PCard Program. This involves tasks such as reviewing transaction documentation, distributing transactions in Banner, reconciling PCard Packets in OnBase, ensuring compliance, and assisting card holders with inquiries.
In addition, this position acts as a liaison, providing customer service for all things related to financial transactions. A key element is using strong problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of the university's financial system to troubleshoot issues and find solutions.
We are recruiting to fill four Accounting Technician positions. Current PSU employees are encouraged to apply.
Minimum Qualifications from Classification
  • 12 quarter hours (8 semester hours) of Accounting courses OR
  • An Associates Degree in Accounting; AND
  • One year of experience that includes entering, compiling and/or reporting financial information; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Transcripts must be submitted for all required and/or related courses. All courses must be from accredited colleges, universities, or private vocational schools.

Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement
The starting salary rate for this position will be between $19.36 and $21.91 per hour, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
If a current PSU SEIU employee is selected and promoted, Article 22 Sections 3 and 6 will apply: a one step increase upon promotion, then another one step increase on the first of the month following the successful completion of the (6) months promotional trial service, and annual periods thereafter. For a lateral transfer, Article 22 Section 7 will apply: the salary shall remain the same when transferring from one (1) position to another which has the same salary range and the salary eligibility date shall remain the same.
PSU offers an excellent benefits package including 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon Public Universities.
