Job description

General Description Performs moderately complex accounting work. Work involves assisting in the preparation of financial statements, records, documents, and reports. May specialize in some phase of accounting work such as grants accounting.

Works under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Examples of Work Performed Maintain and balance financial statements, reports, schedules, and exhibits; and prepare general journal entries. Prepare periodic analyses of fund balances, revenues, and expenditures.

Audit accounting and financial documents for accuracy and compliance with County policies and procedures and State and Federal laws and regulations. Classify, code, post, and balance financial and accounting documents and records. Review and maintain accounting records, such as expenditure, expense, revenue, fund, and appropriation records.

Research and reconcile discrepancies in accounts, bank statements, or appropriation balances; and report findings. Assist in the preparation of financial statements, reports, schedules, and exhibits related to annual audits or periodic monitoring reviews. May process payments related to grants and/or audit them for accuracy.

Perform related work as assigned. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance from an accredited college or university. Experience in accounting preferred.

Certificates, Licenses and Registration: Must have a current valid Texas motor vehicle operator's license. Must be able to be insured by the County's insurance carrier. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures affecting the maintenance of accounting records and automated accounting systems.

Skill in the use of personal computer and related office equipment; standard software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word and Excel); and 10-key calculator. Ability to interpret and apply accounting theory; to interpret laws and regulations; to work accurately with numerical detail; to analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data; to establish and maintain effective working relationships; and to communicate effectively.
