Job Description:
What do you know about the Nebraska Department of Agriculture? The Department is a very diverse agency with approximately 26 different cash accounts, approximately 14 federal funds and performs similar accounting/budgeting duties for seven commodity board agencies. We are 90% regulatory and 10% promotion with 4 focus areas Food Safety Consumer Protection, Animal Plant Health Protection, Supervision, an Promotion. This position operates as a business manager for the area, ensuring timely processing of accounts receivable and payables, supervising the day-to day operations, and serving as the principal staff authority on generally accepted accounting principles. It also manages procurement for the Agency and works alongside the Budget and Finance Administrator on setting and managing the budget.

Job Duties: Manage electronic and physical inbox for the Finance area. Pre-audit accounts payable and receivable. Review and approve procurement documents in accordance with State Purchasing Policies. Analyze financial data and provide projections on spending and funding levels for current and future fiscal years. Directs, implements, and modifies policies, procedures, instructions, and manuals relating to the accounting, budgeting and financial reporting functions. Processes and reviews payroll for budget accuracy and verify positions are paid from correct programs. All other duties assigned within the scope of the classification.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, statistics, business administration or related field; OR Associates degree in accounting, finance, statistics, business administration or related field and two years' experience with professional accounting procedures; OR four years' experience with professional accounting procedures including developing public accounting systems, modifying public accounting systems, and financial management consultation.
Other: Regular and Reliable attendance is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Proficient with MS Office, specifically Microsoft Excel. Effectively communicate to explain complex information to various audiences. Ability to manage time and competing priorities. Ability to learn and apply the principles and concepts of specific agency programs, policies, and operating details to managing a budget. Self starter and able to problem solve independently.
