Job description

Armacell provides numerous and diverse career opportunities. Add your talent to ours and make a difference around the world!

The year 1954 marked a significant milestone in thermal insulation history. Armstrong's R&D Project Number 54013, developed by three innovators, evolved into ArmaFlex, the world's first flexible, closed-cell elastomeric foam for equipment insulation. This product revolutionized the insulation industry. Today, more than 70 years later, ArmaFlex continues to be a pillar of Armacell's success.

The Segment Leader - Backer Rod & Custom Profiles is responsible for driving profitable growth across two strategic product segments, including polyethylene (PE) and rubber foam-based solutions. This role will lead commercial expansion efforts by increasing market penetration, broadening the distribution base, and developing strong channel and customer relationships.

The ideal candidate is a growth-oriented commercial leader with experience in building products and a strong preference for experience in foam-based products. This position is intentionally designed as a leadership development and succession role, providing a clear path toward advancement into a future Sales Director position. The successful candidate will progressively assume broader commercial leadership responsibilities and serve as a key member of the organization's long-term leadership pipeline.

Preferred Location: Remote within the Central or Eastern Time Zones of the United States.

Strong preference will be given to candidates located within key commercial markets across the Eastern Seaboard, Southeast, Northeast, Midwest, and Texas. The selected candidate should be able to effectively support customers, channel partners, and internal stakeholders across North America while maintaining regular availability during Central and Eastern business hours.

What Armacell can offer you

  • Healthcare benefits including medical & prescription drug coverage, dental, vision, and mental health & wellbeing.

  • Financial programs such as 401(k), life insurance, short & long- term disability coverage, and opportunities for performance-based salary incentive programs.

  • Paid time off including 12 holidays and generous PTO.

  • Training and educational resources on our personalized learning management system.

  • Giving & volunteer opportunities, and discounts on retail products, services & experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a segment growth strategy for Backer Rod and Custom Profiles across target markets and channels.

  • Expand the distribution footprint by identifying, recruiting, and developing new distribution partners.

  • Drive revenue growth through strong commercial execution, market development, and customer acquisition.

  • Collaborate with sales, marketing, product management, operations, and leadership to align segment priorities with business objectives.

  • Identify new end-use applications, market opportunities, and customer needs for PE and rubber foam products.

  • Build and maintain relationships with distributors, contractors, OEMs, fabricators, and other key channel partners.

  • Monitor competitive activity, pricing, market trends, and customer feedback to inform strategy and improve positioning.

  • Support product training, value proposition development, and go-to-market initiatives to accelerate adoption and share growth.

  • Develop account and channel plans with measurable goals, forecasts, and growth targets.

  • Provide regular updates to leadership on pipeline development, segment performance, and strategic opportunities.

  • Demonstrate leadership potential by taking on increasing responsibility and preparing for progression into a Sales Director role.

  • Assume North America-level responsibility and strategic ownership for the Backer Rod and Custom Profiles segments.

  • Own margin and profitability performance to improve segment economics.

  • Lead and develop one direct report with accountability for coaching and development, performance management, goal setting, and execution.

  • Partner closely with the current Sales Director to gain exposure to broader commercial strategy, organizational leadership, business planning, and talent development activities.

  • Lead strategic initiatives that support long-term business growth while preparing to assume increasing levels of commercial leadership responsibility.

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of the business, including sales, product management, operations, and customer strategy, to support future advancement into a Sales Director role.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Business, Marketing, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in sales, business development, product management, or segment leadership within the building products industry.

  • Demonstrated success growing revenue, expanding channels, and increasing market share.

  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify and capture new business opportunities.

  • Experience working with distributors and channel partners in a growth-focused environment.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.

  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with the ability to translate insights into action.

  • Ability to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders across the organization.

  • Approximately 40-50% travel throughout North America to support customer engagement, channel development, and business growth initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in foam products strongly preferred, particularly polyethylene (PE) foam, rubber foam, or related applications.

  • Background in construction materials, sealants and accessories, insulation, specialty building materials, or adjacent product categories.

  • Experience launching products, opening new channels, or leading market expansion initiatives.

  • Demonstrated leadership potential and readiness for future advancement into a Sales Director position.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, develop talent, and manage cross-functional initiatives in preparation for broader commercial leadership responsibilities.

  • Interest in and readiness for a defined succession opportunity into a Sales Director-level leadership role.
