Traveling Data Technician

Project-Based Opportunity

100% Travel Required

Position Summary

TEKsystems is seeking motivated and detail-oriented Data Technicians to support a nationwide access control installation project. This role is ideal for candidates with low-voltage cabling experience who enjoy travel and working in a team-oriented environment.

The Data Technician will partner with an Electrician to install, test, and commission network-connected access control systems at customer locations across the country. Candidates should have experience with structured cabling installations, network device connectivity, and troubleshooting, while maintaining a strong commitment to quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install and terminate CAT5e network cabling in support of access control systems.
  • Terminate RJ45 connectors and perform cable testing and certification.
  • Mount and connect network door controllers and other access control devices.
  • Install and terminate illuminated NFC tap point assemblies and related field devices.
  • Label, organize, and dress structured cabling to maintain quality installation standards.
  • Test network connectivity and verify communication between system components.
  • Assist with equipment commissioning, system verification, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Maintain accurate installation documentation and adhere to project requirements.
  • Collaborate with Electricians and project teams to ensure successful project completion.
  • Follow all site safety requirements, quality standards, and project timelines.
Required Qualifications
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience installing and terminating CAT5e cabling.
  • Experience mounting and connecting network-based devices and controllers.
  • Experience troubleshooting, installing, dressing, and organizing structured cabling systems.
  • Familiarity with RJ45 terminations, cable testing, and network connectivity principles.
  • Ability to read and follow project documentation and installation standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a customer-facing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience with access control systems or security installations.
  • Experience commissioning network-connected devices.
  • Knowledge of low-voltage cabling best practices and industry standards.
Team Structure

Each installation team will consist of:

  • 1 Licensed or Experienced Electrician
  • 1 Low Voltage/Data Technician

Together, the team will support the installation of network-connected access control systems, including structured cabling, network connectivity, electrical infrastructure, equipment enclosures, and related field devices.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Lowell, AR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $33.00/hr.
