This role is part of Alcon's Engineering function, a team focused on improving quality, processes, products, packaging and materials across our business to help deliver brilliant outcomes.
The Control Systems Technician II (Para-Professional & Support Path) is responsible for supporting the installation, modification, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of facility-wide automation and control systems at the North Manufacturing Facility in Fort Worth, Texas. This role partners closely with Control Systems Engineers/Specialists to ensure efficient operations, system reliability, and compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Specifics Include:
  • Provide day-to-day support for troubleshooting and resolving issues related to automation systems across manufacturing, research, and facility operations
  • Install, modify, maintain, and improve campus-wide control systems, including HVAC controls, environmental monitoring (temperature, humidity, pressure, particulate), and central energy plant systems (chilled water and steam distribution)
  • Perform and support validation activities (IQ/OQ) for automation and control systems
  • Calibrate instrumentation and devices in accordance with SOPs and quality standards
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, including as-built drawings, control programs, and network architecture
  • Provide ongoing maintenance and calibration support for control systems and related equipment
  • Troubleshoot industrial control systems, including PLCs, SCADA systems, and associated hardware/software (e.g., Rockwell, Ignition, Moxa, Opto 22, JACE)
  • Read and interpret sequences of operation and technical documentation for control systems
  • Diagnose and support resolution of mechanical and electrical equipment issues impacting system performance
  • Apply logical, structured problem-solving techniques to identify root causes and implement solutions
  • Support facility-related projects, including system upgrades, expansions, and infrastructure improvements
  • Assist with planning, budgeting, and scheduling of system and facility modifications, including estimating costs for labor, materials, and equipment
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and internal teams to support project execution
  • Contribute to facility planning efforts such as space utilization, system design enhancements, and infrastructure upgrades
  • Ensure compliance with GxP regulations by adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), maintaining accurate documentation, and completing required training
  • Support adherence to safety standards and participate in continuous improvement initiatives
  • Mentor and provide guidance to Control Systems Technician I team members to support team development and project success

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English
  • 4 Years of Relevant Experience
  • Work Hours: Monday - Friday: 7:30 AM CST - 4:30 PM CST
  • Location: Onsite

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
  • Technical Degree in HVAC, Mechanical Systems, Electrical Technology, or Information Technology
  • HVAC certification or equivalent technical certification
  • Experience with building automation systems (BAS) such as Johnson Controls (Metasys/JCT), JACE, and BACnet protocols
  • Hands-on experience with PLCs (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell preferred)
  • Experience with SCADA platforms such as Ignition (Inductive Automation)
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols and protocol translation (e.g., Modbus, BACnet, Ethernet/IP)
  • Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, and control system integration
  • Experience working in regulated environments (GxP, pharmaceutical, or medical device industries)
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, P&IDs, and technical drawings
