REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness
JOB STATUS: Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness provides operational direction and leadership for Academic Affairs processes and for program assessment and accreditation compliance through SACSCOC and other institutional accrediting bodies. This position supports the SACSCOC Institutional Liaison in the preparation and submission of the Ten-Year Compliance Certification, the Fifth-Year Interim Report, the Annual Enrollment Report, the Institutional Financial Profile, and substantive change submissions, as well as assisting individual academic programs with their discipline accreditation self-studies, evidence, reports, and visits as needed. The Director interacts with University administration, faculty, and staff to ensure compliance issues are being appropriately evaluated and resolved. This position reports to the Executive Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide leadership in the University's comprehensive institutional assessment, planning, and quality improvement processes.
- In collaboration with College/School leadership, assist with specialized programmatic accreditation. Provide support and resources to programs during accreditation self-studies and visits.
- Manage the drafting of accreditation compliance narratives and evidence document collection for all University accreditors. Exercise discretion and use independent judgment in reviewing compliance evidence to help determine currency, relevance, and format, and follow up on evidence as appropriate.
- Compile the strategic plan assessment report and submit to the University Executive Council for approval.
- Facilitate professional development and training related to assessment and accreditation for faculty and staff.
- Ensure assessment activities support all academic, student success, and administrative units, including residential, hybrid, online and off-site instructional location classes.
- Coordinate the planning and hosting of all visits by University accreditors (e.g., SACSCOC) and visits with program accreditors as needed.
- Oversee the Faculty Credentials Portal to ensure all faculty credentials are accurately reported; prepare and verify faculty rosters, as required by University accreditors; manage web-based assessment system (Xitracs).
- Remain aware of current trends and best practices in assessment as well as changes in accreditor standards, and advise University administration how all of these will impact the University.
- Compile data from University and external sources to create reports, spreadsheets, tables, graphs, and other visualizations to assist in data analysis, decision-making, and presentations.
- In collaboration with the Office of the Provost, give direction to HCU's internal academic program reviews, including scheduling the cycle of reviews, distributing report templates, supplying required data, offering training to report writers, and coordinating both internal and external evaluation of the program reviews.
- Support the work of the Academic Affairs Committee, including working collaboratively with other departments to effectively communicate and implement changes in academic programs and policies.
- Maintain the Academic Handbook and assist in the implementation of changes approved by the Academic Affairs Committee and ratified by the President.
- Develop and execute short- and long-term projects in support of leadership in the Office of the Provost.
- Serve on University committees as appointed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Conduct all responsibilities in a collegial manner and in full and unqualified affirmation of the Preamble of the University.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be able to completely affirm, uphold, and live within the Preamble of Houston Christian University and the Ten Pillars Core Convictions and work to further the University's mission
- Exhibit an active Christian faith with local church membership and involvement
- Master's degree required
- Prior experience working in higher education or in other settings with legal compliance reporting preferred
- Familiarity with accrediting bodies and standards preferred
- Adept at multitasking and managing concurrent projects while accurately attending to detail and meeting often tight deadlines
- Excellent and precise oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Skills in qualitative and quantitative research and analysis
- Capabilities in project management and innovating and improving business processes
- Intermediate-level skills (or greater) in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive/SharePoint, and other common office applications
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work directly and professionally with Deans, Executive Council, and senior leadership across all divisions of the University
- Be available for some night and weekend programming
