Graduate Program Advisor

This position will support the Frontiers "Bridge to the Doctorate" Master's Program, the EEB Master's Program, Postdoc programming, student awards, and other related initiatives in EEB while fostering a sense of belonging through all graduate programs.

Advising and Student/Postdoc Support (35%):

Serve as a staff advisor to over twelve Master's Students in both the Frontiers Program and EEB Master's Program, including leading weekly cohort meetings.

Design and implement cohort-building initiatives tailored to the Frontiers Program.

Advise on grad student policies and serve as administrative support to the Frontiers Program Director and the Associate Chair for Graduate Studies.

Develop and execute programming to support the career growth of 20+ Postdocs.

Act as a liaison and resource for Postdocs on university practices and policies.

Facilitate all student reimbursements in coordination with the UM Shared Services Center. Program Administration and Recruitment (30%):

Actively support during the Frontiers summer field course (EEB 500) and summer orientations.

Help develop the Frontiers curriculum, including feedback on course content and course requirements.

Manage the Frontiers Program budget effectively.

Strategize and lead recruitment efforts for a diverse and talented student body.

Execute various student services administrative duties, including maintenance of admission and enrollment data, and updated alumni information.

Event and Website Management (15%):

Organize annual recruitment events, student orientation, and departmental functions, handling logistics, coordination, and day-of facilitation.

Maintain the graduate program websites and support all public relations content related to graduate students.

Interdepartmental Collaboration & Administration (20%):

Serve on and provide administrative support to the Joining Efforts for Dialogue and Impact Committee (JEDI) through organizing meetings, gathering community feedback, spearheading dynamic programming, and leading initiatives through the Rackham Faculty Ally's award

Join college and university committees as a valuable contributing member.

Provide backup support to the Senior Graduate Coordinator and other administrative staff, as necessary.

Required Qualifications*:

Associate degree or equivalent and more than four years of work experience. Previous work experience in graduate student services administration or as a graduate student. Experience with holistic student advising including academic, institutional, and interpersonal coaching. Administrative experience in an academic department including experience with administrative support of instructional activities. Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, multitask, set and achieve goals and deadlines. Must be able to create and develop relationships with a diverse student body. Strong verbal and written communication skills with solutions-oriented thinking. Ability to work effectively in a team is required. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.

Desired Qualifications*:

Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, evolutionary biology, botany, zoology, or related areas is strongly preferred. Previous administrative experience with graduate programs and student requirements is strongly preferred. Familiarity with LSA, Rackham, and University policies and procedures as they pertain to graduate programs is desired. Proficiency with M-Pathways, Business Objects, and Emburse is desired.

Modes of Work:

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Work Locations:

The primary work location is the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor Campus, Biological Sciences Building. Hybrid and flexible work schedules may be available. Core hours for this position are 9 am - 4 pm and there will be occasional evening and weekend hours to support events and program activities.

Additional Information:

The salary range for this position is $47,600-$59,500

A higher salary may be considered for candidates with extensive experience or qualifications
