Bridge Construction Superintendent – Direct Major Infrastructure & Structural Bridge Projects with S.M.H. Construction Co., Inc.

The Opportunity:

You will serve as the primary field leader overseeing complete construction operations for high-visibility bridge and civil infrastructure projects across West Virginia. By directing crews, subcontractors, and site logistics, you will directly drive project execution and long-term structural quality. This role offers high operational autonomy, performance bonus potential, and the opportunity to build a legacy with a premier, multi-generational civil builder.


How You Will Make an Impact:

  • Direct complete daily field operations for bridge construction projects to ensure work progresses safely, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Oversee critical structural operations including abutment construction, pile driving, beam setting, and bridge deck forming.
  • Plan site logistics, create look-ahead plans, and coordinate seamless scheduling for field crews, subcontractors, and materials vendors.
  • Review structural blueprints, technical drawings, and complex contract specifications to verify site precision and compliance.
  • Communicate contractual issues, field adjustments, and progress reports proactively with executive leadership and project managers.
  • Supervise and mentor site personnel to cultivate a safety-first, high-performing field culture across all operational phases.


Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • 10+ years of progressive field construction leadership experience, with a heavy emphasis on bridge building.
  • Deep technical expertise in abutment construction, pile driving operations, beam setting, and bridge deck forming.
  • Proven ability to read engineering plans, interpret contract specifications, and manage site schedules effectively.
  • Substantial background managing subcontractors, vendors, material suppliers and multi-disciplinary field crews on civil infrastructure sites.


Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

  • Advanced track record of proactive problem-solving regarding contractual specifications and field engineering challenges.
  • Strong leadership capacity aligned with a long-term interest in field operations management and team mentorship.
  • Experience in field layout and surveying.
