Position summary: A licensed practical nurse is responsible for providing nursing care and assistance for ill and/or injured residents.

Responsibilities include:

  • Operate pill call, provide med pass, distribute medication and document as required by applicable policies and procedures in designated location(s)
  • Under direction of the RN on duty and in accordance with approved standing orders, obtain initial health information and assist with treatment of inmates reporting to sick call
  • Refer inmates to providers when appropriate
  • Assist with provider line
  • Perform emergency procedures as needed and call physician for treatment orders when necessary
  • Keep equipment and work area clean; Prepare exam room and equipment
  • Control medication, syringes and other medical supplies as required
  • Closely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses
  • Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records; observe applicable HIPAA rules

Education and experience requirements:

  • Graduation from a licensed practical nurse program
  • An active licensure as a practical nurse in the state of Florida
  • One (1) year of experience preferred, to include EKG, phlebotomy, injections, IV, casting and wound care
  • A valid driver's license in the state of Florida with an acceptable driving record is required, unless waived by management
