Job description

About Abridge Abridge was founded in 2018 with the mission of powering deeper understanding in healthcare. Our AI‐powered platform was purpose‐built for medical conversations, improving clinical documentation efficiencies while enabling clinicians to focus on what matters most—their patients. Our enterprise‐grade technology transforms patient‐clinician conversations into structured clinical notes in real‐time, with deep EMR integrations. Powered by Linked Evidence and our auditable AI, we are the only company that maps AI‐generated summaries to ground truth, helping providers quickly trust and verify the output. As pioneers in generative AI for healthcare, we set industry standards for responsible deployment of AI across health systems. We are a growing team of practicing MDs, AI scientists, PhDs, creatives, technologists, and engineers working together to empower people and make care more intelligible. Our offices are located in the Mission District in San Francisco, the SoHo neighborhood of New York, and East Liberty in Pittsburgh. The Role As Brand Design Director at Abridge, you will set a new standard for design in healthcare, redefining what brand means in healthcare and shaping how Abridge looks, feels, and communicates at every touchpoint of the user experience. You'll own the brand design system that creates the first consumer‐grade experience across healthcare systems and drives meaningful impact. With a refined, premium aesthetic and sharp strategic instincts, you'll collaborate closely with product designers and push the team toward ever‐higher standards. Your work will transform bold ideas into tangible brand moments, building a distinctive, consistent, and unforgettable presence. What You'll Do Define and evolve our brand to clarify us as the leader and expert in healthcare AI. Own future brand refresh/rebrand work and establish principles and direction that guide the brand at scale. Own Abridge's visual design system across Product and Marketing to support future growth. Create flexible frameworks, templates, and libraries that empower others while maintaining cohesion. Take a product‐first approach to brand design, first focusing on the foundation of our typography, color, motion, iconography, and illustration. Inspire and elevate the design team through thoughtful critique, ambitious vision, and clarity of perspective. Drive alignment across stakeholders and confidently articulate the "why" behind creative decisions. Partner cross‐functionally to concept and launch new initiatives from the ground up. Bring both strategic direction and hands‐on craft to early‐stage work. What you'll bring 9+ years of experience in visual, product brand, and crafting design systems at scale. Work that reflects not just visual polish, but the ability to build, evolve, and diversify brand systems over time. Strong communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to articulate how brand decisions impact product experience and user trust. Ability to clearly articulate creative rationale, lead brainstorms, and build alignment across marketing, product, content, engineering and leadership teams. Portfolio demonstrating mastery of visual design fundamentals: typography, composition, hierarchy, and interaction design, with meticulous attention to detail and experience applying brand to product. Experience working in a fast‐paced environment and ability to tackle multiple projects simultaneously, moving between strategic thinking and visual execution with ease. General passion for design and active exploration of how AI and emerging technologies are reshaping design workflows, systems, and creative possibilities. Must be willing to work from our SF or NYC office at least 3x per week. This position requires a commitment to a hybrid work model, with the expectation of coming into the office a minimum of three times per week. Relocation assistance is available for candidates willing to move to San Francisco or New York. Why Work at Abridge? Abridge is transforming healthcare delivery experiences with generative AI, enabling clinicians and patients to connect in deeper, more meaningful ways. Our mission is clear: to power deeper understanding in healthcare. We drive real, lasting change, with millions of medical conversations processed each month. Joining Abridge means stepping into a fast‐paced, high‐growth startup where your contributions truly make a difference. Our culture requires extreme ownership—every employee is empowered and expected to impact our customers and our business. Beyond individual impact, you will work alongside curious, high‐achieving people in a supportive environment where success is shared, growth is constant, and feedback fuels progress. Every decision is rooted in empathy, always prioritizing the needs of clinicians and patients. We're committed to supporting your growth professionally and personally through flexible work hours, an inclusive culture, and ongoing learning opportunities.
