Position Hours: 32 hours per week; following student contact days
Location: Tower Soudan Elementary - Tower, MN
Wage: $28.10 - 32.92 per hour

Position Description




The Indigenous Support Advocate I provides direct academic support and intervention assistance to students participating in the American Indian Education Program. The position will work with a caseload of students as assigned by the American Indian Education Director and will collect and assess student data to support student success.

Working under the guidance of the American Indian Education Director, the Indigenous Support Advocate I, will help address the diverse educational and cultural needs of American Indian students and support the achievement of program goals. The position requires the ability to work independently at times with minimal supervision, while maintaining effective communication and collaboration with students, families, and school staff.

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills

  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing student and program needs

  • Ability to problem-solve and work effectively as part of a team

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience working directly with children or young adults

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Two or more years of experience working in a direct student-contact role in a K12 educational setting, counseling position, or related field
  • Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, counseling, cultural studies, or a related field
  • Knowledge or understanding of American Indian culture and educational needs
  • Experience working with American Indian students and their families or other culturally diverse student populations
