Position Summary
The ABA Therapist provides direct Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services to children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and related developmental needs in home, community, and clinic-based settings. Under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), the ABA Therapist implements individualized treatment plans and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) to support skill development, reduce challenging behaviors, and promote independence in natural environments. Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification is preferred and may be required depending on client, payer, or program requirements.
Position Scope
This position operates within the Clinical Services/Behavioral Health function and supports ABA service delivery across home, community, and clinic settings. The ABA Therapist works under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and collaborates with families and interdisciplinary team members to ensure consistent, high-quality, and person-centered care. The role focuses on direct service delivery, implementation of treatment plans, and accurate data collection.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct 1:1 ABA therapy services in home, community, and clinic settings.
  • Implement individualized treatment plans and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) under BCBA supervision.
  • Support skill development and behavior reduction using evidence-based ABA techniques.
  • Collect behavioral data and complete accurate, timely documentation.
  • Maintain communication with supervising clinicians, caregivers, and team members.
  • Attend required supervision, training, and team meetings.
  • Reinforce caregiver guidance and support program implementation.
  • Comply with HIPAA, organizational policies, payer requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain RBT certification and BACB requirements when applicable.
  • Perform physical activities necessary to support client care and behavioral interventions.

Regulatory Frameworks
This role operates in compliance with HIPAA regulations, applicable state Medicaid and insurance requirements, payer guidelines, and organizational policies governing ABA services and client care. Employees who maintain RBT certification must also comply with applicable BACB ethical and professional standards.
Confidentiality
The ABA Therapist is responsible for maintaining strict confidentiality of all client and organizational information in accordance with HIPAA and company policies. All protected health information (PHI) must be handled securely and professionally.
Documentation Requirements
This role requires accurate, timely, and complete documentation of session notes, behavior data, and skill acquisition progress using electronic systems. Documentation must meet payer, regulatory, and organizational standards.
Certifications
Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) is preferred but not required for all positions. RBT certification may be required based on client needs, payer requirements, educational qualifications, or program-specific requirements. Employees who hold RBT certification must maintain active status and comply with all applicable BACB standards.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional coursework or education in psychology, education, behavioral science, social work, child development, or a related field is preferred.
Additional education, training, or credentials may be required based on client needs, insurance requirements, funding sources, or program-specific requirements.
Experience
Previous experience working with children, individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), developmental disabilities, or behavioral health services is preferred. Experience providing ABA services, behavior support, caregiving, education, or related direct support services is strongly preferred.
Technical Skills
Basic proficiency in data collection systems, electronic health records (EHR), and mobile applications is required. Ability to follow structured programs and apply ABA techniques effectively is essential.
Languages
Strong English verbal and written communication skills are required. Bilingual abilities may be preferred based on client population needs.
Driver License
A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required to travel between client service locations (home, community, and clinic settings).
Travel Requirement
Travel is required between home, community, and clinic service locations within assigned areas. Flexibility for afternoon, evening, and weekend schedules is required based on client needs.
