What is AV production?

AV production, or Audio-Visual production, involves the creation, management, and delivery of content that uses both audio and visual components. This can include producing videos, live events, presentations, broadcasts, and other multimedia projects. AV production professionals handle equipment such as cameras, microphones, lighting, and editing software to ensure high-quality output. They often work behind the scenes at events, in studios, or on-location to bring creative projects to life.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AV production specialist?

To thrive as an AV Production Specialist, you need expertise in audio and video technology, event production, and troubleshooting, often supported by a relevant degree or certification. Familiarity with equipment such as mixers, cameras, switchers, and software like Pro Tools, Adobe Premiere, or AV control systems is typical. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are vital soft skills for this role. These abilities ensure seamless technical execution, minimize downtime, and support successful live or recorded productions.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in AV production, and how can they be managed?

Professionals in AV Production often encounter challenges such as tight deadlines, rapidly changing technology, and coordinating with multiple teams (like event planners, technical staff, and clients). Managing these challenges requires strong organizational skills, the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues quickly, and clear communication with all stakeholders. Staying updated on the latest AV technologies and cultivating flexibility in problem-solving are key to thriving in this dynamic environment.

  • Maintain and perform routine upkeep of AV equipment (microphones, mixers, cameras, streaming encoders, projectors, and related hardware)
  • Coordinate with Community Services and academic staff to schedule and prepare AV needs in advance of chapel and school events
  • Troubleshoot live production issues in real time to minimize service or event disruption
  • Archive and manage recordings of chapel services and events for internal use and distribution
Key Responsibilities โ€” Technology Instruction (approx. 25%)
  • Serve as a part-time technology instructor, delivering age-appropriate technology/digital literacy lessons to students
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials aligned with school academic standards and curriculum goals
  • Assess student progress and provide feedback consistent with school academic policies
  • Maintain classroom technology (computers, tablets, software) used for instruction
  • Collaborate with the Principal/Chief Academic Officer and teaching staff to integrate technology instruction with broader classroom learning objectives
