Freelance ASL Interpreter- NIC Certified

Job Type: Full-time

The Opportunity

ContextGlobal is seeking NIC Certified ASL Interpreters to support assignments across our client base in the Washington Metropolitan area. I

Role Expectations

Provide effective communication facilitation between multiple parties, working to and from ASL and English

Understand cultural and linguistic differences between communities and respond accordingly

Required Qualifications

Active National Interpreter Certification (NIC)

Fluency in American Sign Language and English voicing

Bachelor's degree in a related field, or lower degree with equivalent experience

Completion of an Interpreter Training Program (graduates of accredited programs preferred)

At least two years of experience as an ASL interpreter

Proficient signing and voicing skills

Strong knowledge of educational vocabulary, ASL, and Deaf culture

Core Competencies

Ethical decision-making

Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills

Knowledge of educational, corporate, and/or community vocabulary

Strong understanding of cultural and linguistic differences between communities

Self-motivated, well-organized, and dependable with paperwork and timekeeping

Adherence to the RID Code of Professional Conduct

Pre-Employment Screenings

Depending on the assignment, the successful candidate may be required to complete:

TB screening

Criminal background check and fingerprinting

Drug test

Locations: DC, MD, and Northern Virginia. Interviews and screenings will be conducted in ASL and spoken English.
