PROFESSOR IN THE PRACTICE OF CIVIL AND ARCHITECTURAL
ENGINEERING- All ranks


The Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering (CAE) of the College of Engineering
(CoE) at the University of Miami (UM) has an open position for a PROFESSOR IN THE
PRACTICE OF CIVIL AND ARCHITECTURAL ENGINEERING at ALL ranks.
Applications to fill this full-time, non-tenure track faculty position are being sought. The start
date for this appointment is anticipated to be August 15, 2026.


Minimum qualifications for this position are earned BS, MS and PhD degrees in civil or
architectural engineering or a closely related engineering discipline with a Professional
Engineering license or ability to obtain Professional Engineering licensure within 2 years.
Candidates with a minimum of 3 years of experience in industry and/or engineering education
are preferred. Candidates with professional practice in thermal, hydraulic and environmental
systems in building sciences are encouraged to apply. Demonstrated ability in communication,
interpersonal skills, collaboration, leadership, and student motivation are required attributes.

The expectation of the candidate is to have a primary teaching role and in addition take part in
departmental and University service. Individuals considering this position should have an
interest and ability to teach courses in undergraduate civil and architectural engineering,
including senior design capstone courses. Candidates are expected to serve in departmental
and/or university committees and professional societies. Candidates should have an interest to
undertake research related to engineering education and applied building systems; implement
new pedagogies such as active learning and AI literacy in civil and architectural engineering;
partake in university strategic initiatives such as U-Online programs by applying real-world
expertise to enhance course development, student mentorship, and cross-disciplinary
collaboration. Additional duties could include serving as the mentor for student organizations.
