The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.
Step into a hands-on role where your trade expertise directly supports a safe, reliable, and fully functioning healthcare environment. As a Plumber, you'll help maintain the critical water, heating, gas, and drainage systems that patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals depend on every day.
The Plumber role may be the perfect fit for you if you enjoy solving problems, take pride in quality workmanship, and understand the importance of keeping essential systems operating safely. If you're dependable, detail-oriented, and motivated by work that makes a meaningful impact behind the scenes, this opportunity offers the purpose, challenge, and stability you're seeking.
As a Plumber, a typical day might include the following:
  • Inspecting, installing, repairing, and replacing pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures throughout the Medical Center.
  • Maintaining critical heating, water, gas, and drainage systems to ensure they operate safely and efficiently.
  • Performing preventative maintenance inspections on plumbing fixtures, piping, and associated equipment.
  • Identifying and repairing leaks, defective pipes, and damaged plumbing components through soldering, caulking, and replacement.
  • Repairing low-pressure steam and condensate return piping and installing pipe assemblies and plumbing fixtures as needed.
  • Working with a variety of valves and fittings, including pressure relief, check, float, gate, globe, thermostatic valves, unions, sleeves, bushings, reducers, steam traps, and strainers.
  • Assisting with the operation and maintenance of heating and air conditioning systems.
  • Conducting observations of general maintenance concerns and communicating issues requiring attention to the Lead Plumber or appropriate leadership.
  • Responding to emergency plumbing needs and occasional off-hours scheduled repairs to support uninterrupted Medical Center operations.
  • Working collaboratively with other skilled trades professionals and assisting in other maintenance disciplines as needed.
  • Delivering timely and efficient building services that support patients, visitors, physicians, and staff.
  • Identifying and reporting safety concerns, including hazardous conditions within the environment of care.

The Plumber role might be for you if:
  • You enjoy working with your hands and solving practical, technical problems.
  • You take pride in quality workmanship and understand the importance of doing the job right the first time.
  • You are safety-focused and recognize how properly maintained plumbing systems contribute to patient and staff safety.
  • You are comfortable working independently while collaborating with other skilled trades professionals.
  • You can adapt to changing priorities and respond effectively to emergency situations.
  • You are dependable and willing to provide occasional off-hours support when needed.
  • You have strong attention to detail and can identify potential problems before they become larger issues.
  • You lead with integrity and are proud to represent the RWJBarnabas Health mission, vision, and values.

To be considered for this opportunity, you must havea High School Diploma or completion of a trade school program and 5 years of practical plumbing experience. You must also have a valid New Jersey Driver's License.Preferred qualifications include a certified Plumber's License.
At RWJBarnabas Health, you'll be more than a Plumber-you'll be an essential part of the team keeping our healthcare environments safe, functional, and ready for the patients who depend on us. Every pipe you repair, fixture you maintain, and potential issue you identify contributes to a healthcare environment where physicians and clinical teams can focus on what matters most: providing exceptional patient care.
