Job description

Position Overview
  • We are seeking a Software & Controls Engineer II to design, develop, support, and enhance software and control systems used to manufacture and test thin-film materials and related products.
  • This position supports automated and electro-mechanical manufacturing equipment through software development, PLC programming, controls troubleshooting, system documentation, and equipment upgrades.
  • The engineer will work closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Production, and other technical teams to improve equipment reliability, resolve technical issues, and support the modernization of manufacturing systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, modify, test, and support software and control systems used in automated manufacturing and test equipment.
  • Develop and troubleshoot PLC logic, control software, operator interfaces, instrumentation, sensors, actuators, and equipment communications.
  • Support Engineering and Maintenance teams with equipment troubleshooting, root cause investigations, corrective actions, and reliability improvements.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, I/O lists, control drawings, and related technical documentation.
  • Document control systems by updating wiring diagrams, I/O mappings, signal flow documentation, and as-built technical documentation.
  • Support equipment upgrades and modernization of legacy control systems, including: Hardware replacement, Software migration, Testing and debugging, Commissioning and Production release
  • Develop, modify, test, and debug software used to control automated equipment and manufacturing systems.
  • Maintain equipment configuration records, software revisions, wiring documentation, and change-control documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities to improve equipment performance, reliability, and maintainability.
Required Qualifications
  • 1–2 years of experience with one or more of the following PLC programming platforms:
    • Siemens TIA Portal
    • Allen-Bradley RSLogix
    • GE Fanuc LogicMaster
  • Experience with PLC troubleshooting, industrial automation, or control-system support.
  • 1–2 years of experience troubleshooting electrical controls, instrumentation, sensors, actuators, motor controls, or electro-mechanical equipment.
  • 1–2 years of experience reading and interpreting: Electrical schematics, Wiring diagrams, I/O lists, Control drawings and Mechanical drawings
  • 1–2 years of experience developing, modifying, testing, or debugging software used to control automated equipment or manufacturing systems.
  • 1–2 years of experience creating or maintaining technical documentation, including wiring diagrams, equipment configuration records, software revisions, or change-control documentation.
Desired Qualifications
  • PLC programming experience with Siemens TIA Portal, Allen-Bradley RSLogix, Studio 5000, GE Fanuc LogicMaster, or similar PLC platforms.
  • Experience with LabVIEW and National Instruments development tools.
  • Experience with industrial wiring, control panels, field devices, instrumentation, equipment communications, and conductor termination.
  • Experience troubleshooting and supporting electro-mechanical manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience reverse engineering legacy control systems, including I/O mapping, signal-flow documentation, and creation of as-built electrical drawings.
  • Experience supporting equipment upgrades and hardware obsolescence planning.
  • Experience with software migration and modernization of legacy control systems.
  • Experience with manufacturing data systems and relational databases.
  • Familiarity with document control and formal change-management processes.
