Why This Role Exists

Zanes Law Injury Lawyers is a 23-year, founder led premier firm operating across two markets in Arizona and scaling. The firm has grown organically entirely under two founders who are each still personally involved in all aspects of the firm. This role is a new role and exists to give the firm a true second-in-command to the founders, not a coordinator, not an office manager, someone who holds real authority over Operations, Finance, and People, so the founders can focus running the firm at a strategic level.

This role in office in our flagship office at 3333 E. Camelback Rd, in beautiful Phoenix, AZ.

What You'll OwnFirm Operations & Authority

Full ownership of day-to-day business operations across Intake, Settlements, Finance and People & Infrastructure. Direct management of the Intake Manager, Settlements Manager, Accounting Lead, and HR Manager, the firm's first layer of true departmental leadership. Independent authority to negotiate vendor, technology, and facilities contracts within board-approved budget. Decision-making authority on operational matters, with accountability for outcomes, not just activity.

Financial Stewardship

Own the operating budget and report on performance against it. Partner with the Settlement Department on cash flow, settlement timing, and case-cost visibility. Bring financial discipline to every operational decision: vendor terms, staffing ratios, technology spend.

People & Talent Leadership

Along with department managers, owns the full hiring lifecycle for staff and support roles: sourcing, screening, offers, and a structured onboarding program. Serve as the point of authority on HR policy, performance management, compensation administration, and employee relations. Build a firm-wide reporting cadence so headcount, ramp time, and retention are always visible.

Strategic Partnership to the Founders

Serve as second-in-command to the founders, sitting as an operating peer and being accepted as such by attorneys and department leadership. Build and maintain the firmโ€™s KPI dashboards from intake volume, case velocity, settlement throughput, cost per case, case aging, collections and knows where things stand always. Take ownership of cross-functional initiatives (systems rollouts, process redesign, expansion) from decision through completion, including chasing down blockers before they become delays. Advise the founders on organizational and operational decisions and act as a sounding board on strategy. Support marketing and business development infrastructure.

What We're Looking For
  • 10+ years in a COO, Executive Director, or senior operations leadership role; law firm or professional services experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience leading people and processes in a nine figure organization (non-corporate).
  • Demonstrated experience owning a budget and an HR function independently, with real decision-making authority, not in a support or coordinator capacity.
  • A track record of being accepted as a peer by professionals (attorneys, physicians, partners) in a professional services environment.
  • Comfortable building reporting systems and KPI dashboards personally when needed (Excel/Sheets fluency required;), while also delegating that work as the team matures.
  • Masters, MBA, CPA, or equivalent credential a strong plus.
  • Self-directed; turns ambiguous priorities into a concrete operating plan without needing one handed to them.
Compensation
  • Base salary: $200,000โ€“$250,000, commensurate with experience and professional services background, plus a performance bonus tied to firm-wide KPIs, budget performance, and hiring/operational outcomes
  • 401K, two profit sharing plans
  • Health insurance 95% company paid
  • Vision, Dental, Life, STD, LTD
