Position Summary

The Dental Hygienist is responsible for providing preventive dental care and oral health education to patients under the supervision of a licensed dentist. This position supports Ibn Sina Foundation's mission of delivering high-quality, patient-centered healthcare services to diverse communities. The Dental Hygienist performs clinical assessments, dental cleanings, preventive treatments, patient education, and assists in promoting oral health and disease prevention.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review and update patient medical and dental histories.
  • Conduct oral health assessments and document findings accurately.
  • Perform dental prophylaxis (cleanings), scaling, and root planning as authorized by state regulations.
  • Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) in accordance with established protocols.
  • Apply fluoride treatments, sealants, and other preventive measures.
  • Screen patients for signs of oral diseases, including periodontal disease and oral cancer.
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, nutrition, and preventive dental care.
  • Record patient treatment plans, clinical notes, and procedures in the electronic dental record system.
  • Assist dentists in identifying treatment needs and developing patient care plans.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control standards, OSHA regulations, HIPAA requirements, and clinic policies.
  • Maintain dental equipment and treatment areas in a clean, safe, and organized manner.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education activities.
  • Provide culturally competent and compassionate care to patients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Support clinic operations and patient flow to maximize efficiency and patient satisfaction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
