Job description

Job Description
SAIC is seeking an experienced RF Systems Engineer to lead the radio frequency and telemetry integration for a tech-refreshed man-portable or towed mobile system designed to perform pre-flight checks and verify telemetry data for DoD platforms (including the MQ-9) located in Huntsville, AL. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing the RF interconnects, integrating telemetry receivers and encryption devices, and ensuring the system successfully receives, decodes, displays, and stores weapons telemetry streams.
The RF Systems Engineer will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
  • Design and integrate the RF architecture required to capture and decode PCM data/weapons telemetry streams without decoding the entire line-of-sight data link
  • Integrate essential system components, (i.e., Quasonix TM receivers and Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) such as TACLANE encryptors)
  • Select and integrate antenna solutions optimized for RDM Tier II waveforms
  • Utilize spectrum analyzers and oscilloscopes to perform system testing, verify RF signals, conduct EMI/RF troubleshooting, and ensure full system functionality
  • Ensure the complete telemetry package is strictly compliant with RCC IRIG-106 standards
  • Develop accurate "as-built" 2D drawings, interconnect diagrams, and schematics to facilitate future modifications
  • Ensure all integrated RF components operate efficiently within the cart's mobility footprint and standard 120V/20A single-phase power limits

Qualifications
Required Education:
  • Bachelor's degree and nine (9) years' experience; additional four (4) years' experience can be considered in lieu of degree

Required Clearance:
  • Must possess an active Secret security clearance with the ability to maintain; US Citizenship required

Required Skills:
  • Proven experience in RF signal processing, radar, or military communications systems integration
  • Hands-on experience with telemetry data standards, specifically RCC IRIG-106
  • Proficiency with RF test equipment (Spectrum Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, Network Analyzers)
  • Familiarity with hardware integration in mobile, size/weight/power (SWaP) constrained environments
  • Ability to generate and interpret 2D electrical schematics and wiring interconnects

Desired Skills or Required Certifications:
  • Previous experience with MQ-9 communication systems or similar unmanned aerial platform telemetry
  • Familiarity with military encryption devices (e.g., TACLANE) and secure data storage solutions
  • Experience supporting 12-to-18-month prototype-to-delivery acquisition lifecycles within DEVCOM or AFLCMC environments
