Job description

Part-time Child Nutrition Worker

Location: Milford School District Reports To: Cafeteria Manager Starting Date: August 2026 Application Deadline: Until Filled

The Food Service team member supports daily school meal operations during a 4 hour workday by preparing and serving food, keeping work areas clean, and following all food safety procedures. The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, basic math and culinary measurement skills, completion of Child Nutrition Unit Classes 1 to 4 after hire, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for long periods, and bend or reach frequently. Experience in school food service is preferred.

Responsibilities include preparing menu items using standardized recipes, serving students and staff courteously, cleaning kitchen areas and equipment, and safely operating food production tools. The team member also operates the Point of Sale system, assists with meal counts, communicates inventory and production needs to the manager, and accepts rotating assignments as needed. Participation in required training and other assigned duties is expected.

Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED required. Basic math skills and knowledge of culinary conversions required. Successful completion of Child Nutrition Unit Classes 1-4 and other related classes within a reasonable timeframe upon employment. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly. Ability to stand for extended periods of time. Ability to bend, squat, and reach frequently as part of daily tasks. Experience in food service management, preferably in a school setting.

Performance Responsibilities: Assist in preparing menu items according to pre-planned menus using standardized recipes. Serve food to students and staff in a friendly and efficient manner. Maintain cleanliness and organization in food preparation and service areas. Clean kitchen space, equipment, and utensils after use. Implement proper HACCP procedures while receiving, preparing, and storing food. Use, operate, and clean all quantity food production equipment as needed. Operate Point of Sale and assist in meal count documentation. Communicate with the manager regarding inventory usage, production totals, and other information related to meal preparation. Accept alternating assignments as designated. Actively engage in annual training and professional development. Perform other duties as assigned.

Terms of Employment: Part-time, 4 hours/day ten-month employee Salary: Salary schedule is based on experience and degree and can be found on the district website.
