REPORTS TO: Food Service Manager

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

COMPENSATION: Based on Classified Pay Model

WORK CALENDAR: 180 Days

STANDARD HOURS: Varies

Job Summary

The Food Service Assistant supports the daily operations of the school food service program by assisting with food preparation, serving meals, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards, and ensuring a safe and efficient kitchen environment. This position works collaboratively with food service staff to provide high-quality meal service to students and staff.

Essential Functions
  • Assist in the dish room and on serving lines as assigned.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, serving, storage, and dining areas.
  • Sweep, mop, and clean floors and workspaces according to established procedures.
  • Transfer and handle food using commercial food service equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines at all times.
  • Assist with meal preparation, service, and cleanup as needed.
  • Work cooperatively with team members to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Food Service Manager.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Previous food service experience preferred.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with students, staff, and coworkers.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain flexible and learn all aspects of food production and service.
  • Reliable transportation required.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to frequently bend, reach, lift, and carry materials.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment with varying temperatures.
