What is a 4 day work week software engineer?

A 4 day work week software engineer is a professional who writes and maintains computer software while working a reduced schedule of four days per week instead of the traditional five. This arrangement aims to improve work-life balance, reduce burnout, and maintain or even increase productivity. Many companies adopting this schedule expect employees to complete the same amount of work in fewer days, often with slightly longer daily hours or focused work periods. The 4 day work week is becoming increasingly popular in the tech industry as organizations seek new ways to attract and retain talent.
