3Shape Designer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a 3Shape Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a 3Shape Designer, you need a strong background in dental technology, CAD/CAM design principles, and an understanding of dental anatomy, often supported by relevant technical training or certification. Proficiency with 3Shape software, digital impression systems, and related dental lab equipment is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication with dental professionals are essential soft skills. These competencies ensure precise, functional dental restorations and smooth collaboration within dental laboratory teams.

What are some common challenges faced by 3Shape Designers when collaborating with dental professionals, and how can they be addressed?

3Shape Designers often work closely with dentists and dental technicians to create precise digital dental restorations. A common challenge is ensuring that the digital designs accurately reflect the clinical requirements provided by dental professionals, which sometimes involves clarifying unclear or incomplete scan data. Job description

Job Title: Cad Cam Designer - 3shape/ Exocad

Location: Indiana/Kentucky

Salary: 27-35 per hour - DOE

Full Benefits

We are seeking a highly skilled Dental CAD/CAM Designer to join our digital laboratory team. This role is at the heart of our production, requiring a blend of dental anatomy expertise and technical mastery. You will be responsible for transforming digital scans into high-quality dental restorations, ensuring perfect fit, function, and aesthetics for our clinical partners.

The ideal candidate is a "digital craftsman" who is deeply familiar with the nuances of dental morphology and can navigate complex restorative cases with precision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Digital Design: Execute full-contour designs for crowns, bridges, inlays/onlays, and veneers using industry-leading software.
  • Implant Cases: Design custom abutments and screw-retained implant crowns, ensuring proper emergence profiles and structural integrity.
  • Diagnostic Wax-ups: Create digital diagnostic wax-ups to assist clinicians in treatment planning and to provide patients with a "preview" of their final smile.
  • Anatomical Accuracy: Apply a deep understanding of occlusion, morphology, and functional tooth movement to every design.
  • Workflow Management: Manage the digital intake of STL files and prepare completed designs for milling or 3D printing.
  • Collaboration: Communicate effectively with technicians and doctors to refine designs based on specific case requirements or feedback.

Required Technical Skills

  • Software Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in 3Shape and/or exocad is mandatory. You should be comfortable navigating the specialized modules for each.
  • Dental Anatomy: A comprehensive understanding of tooth morphology and the ability to replicate natural aesthetics digitally.
  • Precision Tooling: Ability to set parameters for cement gaps, minimum thickness, and connector strengths to ensure restoration longevity.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a dental laboratory setting, specifically focused on CAD/CAM.
  • Detail Oriented: An "eagle eye" for margins and occlusion to minimize chairside adjustments for the dentist.
  • Adaptability: Ability to keep up with software updates and new digital materials (Zirconia, E.max, PMMA, etc.).
