Position Overview

We are seeking a fully trained shop mechanic capable of executing all necessary shop duties and routine preventative maintenance tasks. This role involves performing repairs related to trailers and minor fixes concerning refrigeration power units.

Compensation and Benefits
  • Hourly Pay: $26.00 - $32.00, with an additional $0.50 per hour shift premium
  • Shift Hours: 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM

Key Responsibilities as a Mechanic II
  • Execute the duties of a Grade 4 Mechanic.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and repairs on trailer refrigeration systems.
  • Perform both simple and complex mechanical and electrical repairs.
  • Independently diagnose, remove, repair, replace, or rebuild:
    • Clutches
    • Water pumps
    • Tires
    • Tractor suspension
    • Body repairs
    • Rear differentials
    • Drive lines
    • Transmissions
    • Wheel seals
    • Brake systems
  • Diagnose and tune up diesel engines.
  • Perform front wheel and axle alignments on trailers.
  • Troubleshoot cooling systems and conduct diagnostic tests.
  • Utilize cutting torches and welding machines for repairs.
  • Interpret service bulletins and technical manuals.
  • Maintain shop tools and complete all necessary paperwork and computer entries.
  • Adhere to company work and safety regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and peers, both in writing and verbally.
  • Follow instructions and work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Complete training and certification for required equipment within 30 days of hire.
  • Abide by the company attendance policy and maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate job demands, including on-call rotations and road calls using a company vehicle.
Qualifications for Mechanic II
  • High School Diploma or GED required; trade school completion in heavy-duty diesel repairs and/or refrigeration preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in diesel repairs, tractor-trailer, and refrigeration maintenance.
  • One year of documented fleet maintenance experience or one year of employment with the organization at the upper level of Class C Technician.
  • Possess basic hand tools (up to ½" drive) and tool storage.
  • Obtain ASE certification in Medium/Heavy Truck Preventative Maintenance Inspection (PMI) within one year of hire.
  • Valid Class C Driver's License required; Class A preferred but not mandatory.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, push, pull, grasp, and reach overhead for extended periods.
  • Hold certifications in the following areas:
    • International Maxx Force 13 Engines
    • Transportation Refrigeration
    • Brake Systems and Components
    • Tractor A/C Refrigeration and Freon Recovery (609 license required)
    • Trailer Refrigeration (608 license required for trailer units)
    • Heavy Duty Electrical Diagnostics and Repairs
  • ASE Certification in heavy-duty mechanics and Cummins or Detroit certification is preferred.

This role necessitates the ability to read, write, and comprehend English at a level sufficient for effective and safe job performance. This includes understanding work instructions, safety protocols, and essential communications related to the position.
