What is a 3rd shift Amazon Relay Owner Operator?

A 3rd shift Amazon Relay Owner Operator is an independent truck driver or small fleet owner who contracts with Amazon Relay to transport freight during the overnight shift, typically starting in the evening and ending in the early morning. These operators use their own trucks to haul loads between Amazon facilities, ensuring timely delivery and pickup according to Amazon's logistics schedules. Working the 3rd shift often means less traffic and potentially higher pay rates, but it also requires adjusting to nighttime driving and managing sleep schedules for safety and compliance.

Can you make good money with 3Rd Shift Amazon Relay Owner Operator?

3rd shift Amazon Relay owner operators can earn competitive income, often based on factors such as load volume, fuel efficiency, and operating costs. While night shifts may have higher pay rates or incentives, overall earnings depend on experience, route efficiency, and managing expenses like maintenance and fuel. Successful owner operators typically need strong driving skills, knowledge of logistics, and the ability to operate independently during overnight hours.

Job description

Part-time, W-2 — you commit to 1 or 2 round trips per week. Same rate, same trucks, same freight as our full-time drivers.

Location: Easton / Allentown, PA (Lehigh Valley) — routes dispatched from the Amazon ABE facility; trucks domiciled at our Easton yard

Pay: $24–$26/hour depending on experience, paid bi-weekly by direct deposit, plus performance/safety bonus opportunities

Schedule: 1 or 2 round trips per week. Each trip: drive out, rest overnight in the sleeper, drive back — about 14 hours of paid driving per trip, roughly a day and a half away from home. That's 14–28 paid hours per week depending on whether you run one trip or two.

Equipment: Late-model Amazon-branded sleeper tractors — assigned, maintained, and fueled through the program (fuel card provided); you drive, we handle the rest

Start date: Late August 2026 (paid onboarding and training); first routes September 2026

About Energico Freight

Energico Freight LLC is a new Amazon Freight Partner launching out of the Lehigh Valley in September 2026. We run dedicated, consistent Amazon linehaul freight — no load boards, no waiting on brokers, no touch freight. This is our part-time role: commit to 1 or 2 round trips a week and keep the rest of your week. As a founding driver you'll help set the culture of a safety-first company that treats drivers like professionals.

Please read before applying

  • This is a Solo-2 sleeper position operating under Amazon Relay. Each trip is one there-and-back run: you drive out, take your overnight rest in the sleeper, and drive home the next day. You work about 14 hours per trip; you're away from home about a day and a half.
  • This is not a home-daily position. Amazon runs 24/7, so trips can include nights and weekends — we'll set your exact recurring slot(s) up front so you know your schedule.
  • This is scheduled work, not on-call: you run the same recurring trip slot(s) every week.

What you'll do

  • Run 1 or 2 dedicated round trips per week out of the Amazon ABE (Allentown) facility — tell us in the interview whether you want one or two and we'll build your recurring schedule around it
  • 100% no-touch, drop-and-hook trailer freight between Amazon facilities
  • Use Amazon's Relay app for dispatch and navigation, electronic logs (ELD) for hours of service, and in-cab Netradyne safety technology
  • Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections and keep your equipment road-ready (maintenance is handled through the Amazon program)
  • Represent Energico professionally at Amazon facilities and on the road

Why you'll love it

  • Same rate, same trucks as full-time — no part-timer discount on pay or equipment
  • Predictable — contracted Amazon route blocks mean your trip runs every week, year-round, scheduled in advance
  • 401(k) retirement plan through ADP
  • Paid time off — PTO accrues on every hour you work
  • Room to grow — extra trips available most weeks, with a clear path to full-time and founding-driver seniority in a fleet planned to grow to 15–20 trucks
  • A fit for real lives — ideal for semi-retired drivers, drivers supplementing another job or business, or anyone who wants to stay in the seat without a full weekly rotation

Requirements

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A)
  • At least 21 years of age (federal requirement for interstate driving)
  • Minimum 6 months of verifiable CDL-A driving experience
  • Live within about 45 minutes of the Easton/Allentown area
  • Current DOT medical certificate (or ability to pass a DOT physical)
  • Must pass a pre-employment DOT drug screen, FMCSA Clearinghouse query, background check, and motor vehicle record review
  • Clean safety record — no DUI/DWI, license suspensions, or serious moving violations within the review period
  • Comfortable with multi-day sleeper routes and overnight driving
  • Able to commit to the same recurring trip slot(s) each week
  • Able to speak, read, and write English (DOT requirement for traffic signs, official inquiries, and records)
  • Comfortable using smartphone apps, GPS, and in-cab technology
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States (I-9 verification)

We'll respond within one business day. The hiring process includes an application, background check and drug screen initiated through Amazon Relay, driver qualification file setup, and paid onboarding/training before launch.

You will be employed by Energico Freight LLC, a locally owned transportation company that partners with Amazon — not by Amazon.
