Job description

Job Description

The Role

GM's Human Interface Design (HID) team is shaping the future of how people interact with our vehicles through advanced interfaces, immersive visuals, and emotionally resonant experiences. As part of the Advanced UX Insights team, you will help build the foundation for General Motors customer experiences on the 10year horizon and beyond. In this role, you will frame and communicate visions of the future and propose new vehicle experience opportunities for GM through conceptual visualization, animation, prototyping, and 2D/3D design. You will blend future foresight, creativity, strategic thinking, industrial design, and digital visualization craft to envision intuitive, inclusive, and futureforward mobility experiences. If you are energized by future thinking, thoughtful collaboration, and bringing bold ideas to life, this role offers the opportunity to influence future chapters of GM's design innovation.

What You'll Do

  • Immerse yourself in a collaborative process of learning and discourse informed by the latest societal, technology, economic, policy, and sustainability trends.

  • Identify and clearly communicate key disruptors that could alter the vehicle transportation business and broader mobility ecosystem.

  • Participate in an iterative design problemsolving process that considers existing and emerging technologies, then creatively applies them to address current and projected customer needs.

  • Create futurefacing visions that define key customer value propositions, required vehicle attributes, hardware and software features, technical requirements, and customer experience outcomes.

  • Envision advanced UX concepts and visual directions that shape future invehicle experiences, supported by storyboards, narrative flows, and compelling visual storytelling.

  • Produce and guide others in the creation of highquality concept visuals, including 2D illustrations, UI explorations, 3D digital models, and animations that bring futurestate interactions to life.

  • Deliver finished design assets such as layouts, sketches, motion graphics, and user journeys that are ready for collaboration, customer research, or handoff to implementation partners.

  • Collaborate and present effectively with crossfunctional teams (design, research, engineering, product, suppliers), bringing fresh foresight from UX, mobility, AI, and technology trends to influence future product and service decisions.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • 2+ years of professional experience in Industrial Design, Transportation Design, UX Design, Human Interface Design, or related fields, with demonstrated skills in 2D sketching/rendering, 3D conceptual modeling, animation, and presentation visualization.

  • Strong, thoughtfully curated design portfolio demonstrating:

    • A customercentric approach to design, highlighting original, creative solutions that solve clearly articulated customer needs.

    • Design proposals that consider the full spectrum of user interactions, both physical and digital, across the vehicle and ecosystem.

    • A range of design, visualization, animation, and communication methods used to effectively communicate concepts across a variety of design challenges.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Proficiency in industrial design, preferably automotive, with strong 2D design sketching/rendering and 3D conceptual modeling skills in tools such as Alias or Blender.

  • Proficiency in concept animation using any combination of VRED, Blender, Twinmotion, Adobe After Effects, Cinema 4D, VIZCOM, or KeyShot.

  • Proficiency in PowerPoint for creating compelling, clear, and easily editable presentations that communicate complex design narratives.
