About the Facility - Naval Medical Center San Diego
Facility Address: 34800 Bob Wilson Drive, San Diego, CA 92134. The largest military medical center on the West Coast and a Level I Trauma Center, this flagship teaching hospital serves active-duty service members, retirees, and their families. Its Medical Imaging department runs a full-service breast imaging program - 2D/3D screening and diagnostic mammography, ultrasound, and image-guided breast biopsy - supported by a collegial radiologist group and modern equipment.
Responsibilities
• Perform routine diagnostic radiological procedures, including 2D and 3D screening and diagnostic mammography
• Assist the radiologist with ultrasound-guided and stereotactic breast biopsies and perform post-biopsy imaging
• Correctly position the patient for each examination and make the technical adjustments the study requires; determine whether any special patient preparation is needed
• Explain the process to patients and instruct and assist them in assuming the physical position for the examination
• Process digital images and submit them for interpretation; send the appropriate image series to the radiologist for reading per department protocol
• Correlate the patient's clinical history with the requested examination and obtain results of previous pertinent diagnostic tests
• Recognize normal anatomic variants as well as anatomic changes created by medical and surgical procedures
• Adhere to radiation safety policies and procedures in accordance with Radiology Department policy
• Perform system warm-ups, calibrations, and quality control tasks according to manufacturer specifications, department policy, and FDA regulations
• Recognize artifacts and equipment errors, report outlying values, initiate repair calls for equipment malfunctions, and record conditions in the trouble call logbook
• Observe and report to the radiologist any symptoms bearing on the patient's condition, including adverse reactions to contrast media
• Recognize the need for and institute emergency measures when a patient requires resuscitation for cardiac or respiratory arrest
• Document all procedures, arrival, departure, and completed tests, and maintain and archive records in accordance with department policy
Qualifications
• Graduate of a radiologic technology program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT)
• Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), with mammography certification - ARRT (M)
• One (1) year of experience as a Mammography Technologist within the last two (2) years
• Active California radiologic technologist certification, including the state mammography certification (CDPH-RHB)
• Comfortable assisting with stereotactic and ultrasound-guided breast biopsies and performing post-biopsy imaging
Schedule
Full-time, 8-hour shifts, Monday - Friday, scheduled between 0600 and 1800. No weekends and no call.
