Mission Statement
Michigan Medicine improves the health of patients, populations and communities through excellence in education, patient care, community service, research and technology development, and through leadership activities in Michigan, nationally and internationally. Our mission is guided by our Strategic Principles and has three critical components; patient care, education and research that together enhance our contribution to society.
Job Summary
Michigan Medicine's Radiology 3D Imaging Lab is seeking a highly motivated imaging professional with a strong background in CT and/or MRI and an advanced understanding of cross-sectional anatomy to join our specialized 3D Advanced Imaging Team. The 3D Imaging Lab provides clinically relevant visualization, analysis, and post-processing of complex medical imaging data, supporting both adult and pediatric patient care across the University of Michigan Health System and external healthcare partners.
In this role, you will leverage your expertise in CT and MRI imaging principles, scanning technology, and cross-sectional anatomy to create high-quality, advanced 3D reconstructions and post-processed images that aid in diagnostic interpretation, patient management, and pre-operative planning. Working closely with radiologists and referring physicians, you will play a critical role in transforming imaging datasets into clinically meaningful visualizations that support complex medical and surgical decision-making.
The ideal candidate is an ARRT-registered technologist with advanced certification in CT and/or MRI, strong clinical imaging experience, and exceptional knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and pathology. Success in this role requires attention to detail, critical thinking, technical proficiency, and a passion for utilizing advanced imaging technologies to improve patient outcomes. This position offers a unique opportunity to deepen your expertise in advanced imaging applications while collaborating directly with physicians in a highly specialized and innovative healthcare environment.
Responsibilities*
- Perform advanced post-processing and visualization of CT and MRI datasets using specialized 3D imaging software to generate high-quality multiplanar reformations (MPR), maximum intensity projections (MIP), volume-rendered images, curved planar reformations, segmentation models, and other advanced reconstructions that optimize visualization of normal anatomy, pathology, and physiologic processes.
- Apply expert knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy, CT and MRI imaging principles, and disease processes to create clinically relevant 3D visualizations that support accurate diagnosis, treatment planning, surgical planning, and patient management across a broad range of adult and pediatric specialties.
- Collaborate closely with radiologists, surgeons, cardiologists, and referring providers to review imaging studies, determine post-processing requirements, and ensure final image reconstructions provide maximum clinical value. Generate quantitative analyses and measurements when appropriate to support diagnostic and procedural decision-making.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in advanced imaging applications, providing consultation regarding optimal visualization techniques, image interpretation support, and advanced post-processing strategies for complex clinical cases.
- Partner directly with Radiology faculty to develop, implement, evaluate, and maintain advanced CT imaging protocols and post-processing techniques that enhance image quality, diagnostic accuracy, workflow efficiency, and patient outcomes.
- Provide instruction and mentorship to physicians, residents, fellows, technologists, and other healthcare professionals who are learning advanced 3D imaging techniques, software applications, and post-processing workflows.
- Collaborate with faculty, residents, fellows, and research teams on academic initiatives, including clinical research projects, publications, presentations, educational conferences, and lectures involving advanced imaging technologies, quantitative imaging, and innovative post-processing techniques.
- Evaluate emerging imaging technologies and advanced visualization methods to support continuous improvement and advancement of 3D imaging services within Michigan Medicine.
