Job description

GFT is seeking a Senior Civil 3D/Site Designer to support a variety of projects in the Mid-Atlantic region. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at Mechanicsburg, PA or Baltimore, MD office.
What you'll be challenged to do:
The Senior Civil 3D / Site Designer plays a critical role in supporting the planning, design, and delivery of site and civil engineering projects across our Buildings & Places business. This role combines advanced Civil 3D expertise with modern digital delivery practices to develop coordinated, high-quality engineering designs while improving project efficiency, collaboration, and consistency.
You'll work alongside engineers, project managers, surveyors, architects, and multidisciplinary design teams to deliver site development, utility, grading, drainage, and infrastructure projects for a diverse portfolio of public and private clients. Beyond project delivery, you'll help advance firmwide Civil 3D standards, digital workflows, and quality processes that support consistent, scalable project execution.
This position also provides opportunities to collaborate with GFT's Digital Delivery team and strategic technology partners to evaluate and implement emerging solutions from Autodesk, Esri and other vendors, and automation/AI-enabled design workflows.
As a Senior Civil 3D / Site Designer, you'll contribute to GFT's broader mission of integrating people, process, and technology to improve project delivery, enhance client outcomes, and continuously advance the way infrastructure is planned, designed, and delivered.
In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
  • Develop conceptual and detailed site/civil engineering designs using Autodesk Civil 3D and AutoCAD for grading, drainage, stormwater, utilities, erosion and sediment control, roadway, and site development projects.
  • Produce coordinated construction documents including surfaces, alignments, profiles, corridors, pipe networks, earthwork calculations, details, and sheet sets while maintaining company and client standards.
  • Manage Civil 3D models, survey databases, coordinate systems, georeferencing, data shortcuts, XREFs, sheet sets, and project documentation throughout project execution.
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, surveyors, and multidisciplinary project teams to develop coordinated design solutions, interpret engineering markups, and participate in QA/QC reviews, CAD/BIM coordination, and clash detection activities.
  • Support digital collaboration using Autodesk Forma (previously Autodesk Construction Cloud/BIM 360), Bentley ProjectWise, Revit coordination workflows, and other common data environments (CDEs).
  • Collaborate with GFT's Digital Delivery team, Design Technology group, vendors, and project teams to improve Civil 3D standards, resource libraries, digital workflows, and evaluate emerging technologies including Autodesk Forma, InfraWorks, Esri ArcGIS, automation, and AI-enabled solutions.
  • Support successful project delivery by maintaining project documentation, meeting quality, schedule, and budget expectations, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance digital delivery across the business.

What you will bring to our firm:
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of experience producing site/civil engineering designs using Autodesk Civil 3D.
  • Advanced proficiency with Autodesk Civil 3D and AutoCAD.
  • Experience developing grading, drainage, stormwater, utility, roadway, and site development plans.
  • Experience managing survey databases, coordinate systems, georeferencing, data shortcuts, XREFs, and sheet sets.
  • Experience supporting BIM coordination and multidisciplinary project collaboration.
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Forma (previously Autodesk Construction Cloud/BIM 360), Bentley ProjectWise, Revit coordination workflows, and clash detection processes.
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, engineering design practices, and multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

What we prefer you bring:
  • Experience with Esri ArcGIS Pro, reality capture, LiDAR, drone survey data, or point cloud workflows.
  • Experience with Civil 3D automation, scripting, Dynamo, or other computational design tools.
  • A collaborative, customer-focused mindset with a passion for delivering high-quality work.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing project needs.
  • An effective communicator who can collaborate across technical disciplines and explain design concepts clearly.
  • A proactive problem solver who enjoys continuous improvement and exploring new technologies to improve project delivery.
  • A passion for innovation, digital delivery, and advancing the future of civil engineering practice.
