Michael Baker International's first office in Alaska opened in 1942. Since then, we have played a key role in some of Alaska's most renowned infrastructure projects, including groundbreaking projects on the North Slope and the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System. We continue to focus on cold regions engineering-pipelines, transportation, civil, architecture, hydrology, and geotechnical, and specialty professional services, permitting and regulatory compliance, and GIS and LiDAR mapping. What We're Looking For:
Michael Baker International is expanding its Transportation Practice in Alaska and is seeking a Senior Project Manager to play a pivotal role in the growth of our transportation design business. This is an exceptional opportunity for a client-focused leader who is passionate about delivering complex infrastructure projects, mentoring teams, and helping shape the future of transportation throughout Alaska.
As a key member of our leadership team, you will oversee the planning, design, and delivery of transportation projects while building and strengthening relationships with public and private sector clients. You'll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of experts in roadway, bridge, rail, aviation, environmental, planning, public involvement, and water resources, giving you access to the tools, talent, and national resources needed to deliver innovative solutions.
Our Alaska team combines the agility and close-knit culture of a local office with the expertise and reach of a nationally recognized engineering and consulting firm. With a strong backlog of work and significant growth opportunities ahead, this role offers the chance to make a lasting impact on Alaska's transportation infrastructure while advancing your career as a leader within Michael Baker International.
What You'll Do:
  • Project Leadership & Delivery: Manage scope, schedule, budget, and quality for a diverse portfolio of transportation projects, including highway, aviation, bridge, rail, and multimodal infrastructure improvements. Lead projects from planning and design through bid-ready documentation and construction support.
  • Technical Leadership: Serve as a technical lead and trusted advisor for transportation design projects. Guide engineering decisions, design development, quality control efforts, and project execution while ensuring adherence to client requirements and industry standards.
  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead and inspire multidisciplinary project teams to successfully deliver projects on time and within budget. Mentor and develop engineering staff while fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous growth.
  • Client Service & Business Development: Strengthen existing client relationships and cultivate new opportunities throughout Alaska. Support strategic pursuits, proposal development, presentations, and industry engagement initiatives that contribute to the continued growth of our Transportation Practice.
  • Practice Growth: Partner with regional and office leadership to help expand Michael Baker's transportation presence across Alaska while contributing to strategic planning and long-term business objectives.

What You Need to Succeed:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Alaska or ability to obtain Alaska licensure through comity.
  • 10+ years of transportation and civil engineering design experience, including development of plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Proven experience managing transportation infrastructure projects and leading multidisciplinary project teams.
  • 5+ years of experience supervising, mentoring, and developing technical staff.
  • Strong understanding of project delivery methods, including Design-Build and other alternative delivery approaches preferred.
  • Established relationships within the Alaska transportation market and a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain client partnerships.
  • Experience leading proposals, interviews, and business development efforts.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and Bluebeam. Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, and GIS applications is a plus.

COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is $115,000-$200,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
