Within this setting , the central mission of The Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art(BFSDoArt) is to develop students¿both majors and non-majors¿into critical thinkers, creative problem solvers, compassionate human beings, and life-long learners. With a focus on professional practice and leadership through creative activity, the BFSDoArt provides students with innovative curricula incorporating relevant technologies and interdisciplinary approaches to educate students with the requisite technical skills and theoretical knowledge for competitive and successful careers as professional artists, art historians, and designers. The BFSDoArt offers interactions with visiting artists and scholars, and a varied exhibition schedule in our state-of-the-art Center for Art and Theatre galleries. Scholarship, internship, and travel abroad opportunities are also available in our ongoing commitment to the development of a well-rounded future world citizen whose creative research recognizes both aesthetic issues and global awareness.
Job Summary
Reporting to the BFSDoArt Department Chair, the Lecturer in Art will support the department's Foundations Program and Core IMPACTS courses. Teaching responsibilities include traditional and digital 2D and 3D foundation studio art courses, Drawing I, and Art Appreciation. Department service responsibilities include assisting with the development of Foundation courses and Art Appreciation curriculum, serving on a departmental committee, attending monthly faculty meetings, and participating in retention activities such as gallery receptions. Art Appreciation may be taught in face to face and hybrid formats. The standard 5/4 teaching load includes foundation courses and Art Appreciation. This is a 10 month, non-tenure track,academic year appointment.
Required Qualifications
  • Earned MFA in Studio Art or a closely related art and design field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Studio or Visual Art by August 1, 2026
  • 2 years as the Instructor of Record for traditional and digital Foundation courses and/or Art Appreciation.
  • Willingness to engage with institutional and departmental student success initiatives.
  • Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Project development experience, especially in integrating traditional and digital techniques into foundational art and design courses.
  • Experience managing or maintaining a studio or makerspace.
  • Proficiency in traditional and digital tools and techniques used in Foundations courses.
  • Working knowledge of art-historical genres and periods, common materials and techniques, and key issues in visual culture.
  • F2F or hybrid lecture experience

Proposed Salary
Commensurate with experience.
This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
